Crows remain unchanged

Talk on the national game

Crows remain unchanged

Postby Blue Boy » Fri Oct 13, 2006 3:27 pm

Trade week did not result in any action from the Adelaide Football Club.

Crows football operations manager John Reid said: “There was some interest in Hayden Skipworth, but that did not eventuate. Hayden will remain on our list at this stage. Any development regarding adjustments to our list will not occur for a week or so.

“The Club did show interest and endeavoured to negotiate the services of Joel Patfull from Brisbane, however that could not be satisfactorily resolved.”

The Adelaide Football Club will enter the NAB National Draft on November 26 with picks 14, 32, 48 and 64.

I am seriously not satisfied with this statement !!!!

Is this is all they can seriously dish up for the supporters ???

If they can not tell us why that they can not get a trade to improve the list and can not get something for a player like Skipworth if some one shows interest - just tell us that no one wants to deal with us.

It would make me feel alot better !!!

Maybe the week in Melbourne was a nice paid holiday !!!

i was looking on the CATS website to get some info and was just about to ask the same question.

maybe it can get worse next year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

surely the CATS should have been prime players in the trade.

Well, maybe not tradeable but some of the dud forwards we have will get delisted along with Koula I feel. I wouldn't have minded losing Dog but not to get bloody Medhurst.

I met an official from a Victorian Club at a friend's dinner party once, and he said it's common knowledge amongst other clubs that certain people from Adelaide are hard to deal with during trade week. And if a club has a slight or vague interest in a trade they don't bother as it's not worth the aggravation caused by this certain individual.

I don't want to name this certain person let's just say he couldn't get a League game at South when South's league team couldn't win a chook raffle. He also ran around like Henny Penny screaming about the evils of the AFL when The Crows first formed, but now seems more than happy to make his living from it.

lets be realistic here

except for Freo, Richmond, StKilda, Sydney and WB, most clubs have seem to make a decision this years draft is the way to go, Crows, Power, Melb, Kanga's, Carlton, Eagles, Cats, Bombers, Brisbane non of these clubs added traded players to their roster

look at what Freo and the Tigers had to give away to gain Tarrant and Polak, in a year where the draft is dubbed the Superdraft, clubs are obviously given more weight to drafted players then recycled players

the other issue is the trading systems, too many trades do not eventuate because of unrealistic demands

obviously the crows showed some interest in Nash, Faulkner, Bell and Patfull during the week but they were not prepared to trade 1st or 2nd round picks for these blokes, nor should they, depending on contract situations players like faulkner or russell may become availabe through the pre-season draft

November 25 is the time recruiting officers earn their keep

Brisbane wanting a 1st round pick for Patfull is absurd- I think the Crows offer of a 3rd round pick was fair.
As an outsider, I think the Crows (& other clubs who didn't trade) are taking the long term view, while most clubs who did (excluding C'wood & R'mond) took the short term.
For mine, the winners of this trade week were the Pies & Tigers.

I think the crows will de-list 3 more players, this will give them 4 selections at the NAB Draft and 1 selection at the pre-season draft

I also expect the crows to draft 4 new rookies to the club, and I would not be suprised if 2 rookie spots are mature age selections, by this I mean 20-22yrs old and playing SANFL, WAFL or VFL Senior footy, remembering the crows can promote 2 players from it's rookie list to the senior list

Players under pressure
Gibson, Hinge, Jericho, Skipworth, Welsh and I don't believe Stevens has been offered a new contract as yet

Superdraft is slung around so some heavy weights can feel that they are doing the correct thing.

The last supposed superdraft had Ball / Hodge / Judd - who was picks 4 to say 16 and how many games have they played ???

the whole top 10 of that draft are all very good players - havent got the names but saw them 12 months ago - I know Hale from Kangas was about 8 or 9 and he was the worst of the lot - although now starting to show why he was drafted there...

I was pretty happy to pick up Polak, at 22 he still has a lot of good football to play and hopefully a change in clubs will bring the best out of him.

Yeah good work Dutchy. Pity there aren't a greater range of smileys to choose from so you could show a couple of those on a different level (ala Judd).

Much has been said in the past about the Crows taking Reilly before Dal Santo. 18 months ago I probably agreed with the Dal Santo argument but now I'd be pretty happy with Reilly. Looking at the bottom of the list, what they wouldn't give now to have Hansen running around at CHF.
