2009 Grand Final Tickets

Postby Wedgie » Tue Sep 08, 2009 10:02 am

Premium $245 (a) $167 (c)
Prime $213.50 (a) $145 (c)
Standard $161 (a) $108 (c)
Restricted View/Standing Room $142.50 (a) $97 (c)

On a side note this Thursday Geelong and St Kilda members will pay $3.50 per membership to earn the right to go in a raffle to get GF tickets if their team wins the Prelim. Similarly members of the winners of the 2 semis get to do the same next year.
The $3.50 it costs to register is non refundable even if your team loses the Prelim.
Im not complaining and will be doing it for the 2nd year running but what a huge money spinner BEFORE 1 ticket is even sold.
If the 4 clubs have 20,000 members that register, 80,0000 X 3.5 = $280,000 made before 1 ticket is even printed!!
They'd probably make more on tickets after that.
I know they've got to cover admin costs but come on!

In 04 and 07 we paid to a fee, I cant remeber what, before the finals even started but that assured you of a GF ticket. No raffle.
If you want to go quickly, go alone.

If you want to go far, go together.

Yeah that's to become the equivelent of a full social club or september member, for most clubs that is paid for in December the previous years and for some of the more popular clubs like Geelong it involves a waiting period of several years. Even if I went on the waiting list And eventually got it after 10 years I dont think I could justify forking out an extra $500 plus considering we only went to one minor round game this year with tickets that give us free access to 11 games! lol

Anyway, thats something completely different. The raffle is an AFL wide thing conducted for the members of the top 4 clubs. In essence 40,000 members fork out $3.50 each for the priveledge of watching their team lose a Prelim, they would have been better off if their team had come last!

The fee paid was by full Port members and season ticket holders who have been members/ticket holders since day 1 of our entry to the AFL not just walk up and pay the fee get a ticket type situation.

There was a pre-requisite to this assured GF ticket.

Yeah, I know mate, all clubs have similar. Unfortunately I wasn't around in the 1850s to sign up with Geelong. ;)
Just a bonus you have following a club that's only been around 13 years.

I think those sort of memberships are fine as the money goes to the clubs. I'm just bemused the AFL can make something around 300k before even selling a ticket. You'd think the monies would be refunded to members of non participants (or losers of the raffle) and would be tacked on to the tickets of the participants.

As another side note I got into the GF last year with kids tickets. A good scam would be to buy up a heap of kids memberships of all clubs that have a chance mid year as they're cheap and entitle the kids to go in the raffle! :D

IIRC it was Power members and also Category 1 AAMI Members (who had Port nominated as their team) could pay $10 to be guaranteed the a ticket if Port made the Granny.

I bought Standing Room only for the 2005 Grand Final and from memory they were $110, fair climb to what they are now.

Correct. $10 to guarantee a ticket.

In 2004 my ticket cost $84. HALF what it is this year. Madness.

It's insulting that they want more money to see less football. Less bumps, less contests, less biff, less entertainment. No they can't condone flat out fighting, but there's nothing better than a bit of a push and shove and wrestle session prior to the first ball up.

The moral of the story is that watching it on TV costs just a few cents and saves you $200-odd per ticket!!!

See this is where you just don't get it Psyber. To you it's just a game but not everybody feels the same way about things as you and what you think doesn't mean that is the right way for everyone to feel. I am sure what you would classify as an unmissable historic event wouldn't interest everybody either.

C'mon RR, don't get too precious ... Psyber can post his opinion just as you can, I didn't read anywhere where he stated that everyone must abide by it. ;)

Spot on Rod. Take the Port Adelaide Football Club and our first AFL premiership in 2004 after 35 SANFL premierships. A historical event that nobody should have missed.

2007 was a major and unmissable historical event and if I had have missed that, I would have regretted it for the rest of my life. As a Geelong supporter, I know I am not alone on that thought. To be able to be there when that final siren went was one of the best days of my life (apart from my daughter being born). The heartbreak I had put up with over the years, and then to experience winning one, instead of coming off second best yet again was just an unbelievable feeling. So in answer to your comment, it's not just a game.
So you've seen everything have you?
Yep
Have you ever seen a man eat his own head?
No
Well you haven't seen everything then have you.
