Junior - Simply The Best

Postby Rik E Boy » Tue Sep 08, 2009 8:27 am

Gary Ablett Jnr has won the AFLPA MVP for an unprecedented third year in a row. Unlike the umpires, the players know who the best player in the league is.

This award would surely hold more currency amongst the players than the brownlow. I know the brownlow has lots of tradition but this surely means more coming from your peers.

A mighty fine effort to win it 3 times in a row.

He seemed genuinely pumped to get the award when they showed a clip of him accepting it on the tv this morning. No doubt the most influential player in the competition at the moment and certainly deserved it.

Amazing achievement, if you look back over the winners of this award in the past its a much truer indication of the best player going around than the Brownlow.
Well done Gazza Jnr!

He is without doubt my favourite player of all time. He is an absolute champion and the fact he hasn't won a Brownlow yet, just shows how wrong the umpires can get it. Well done Gaz. You are a legend.
So you've seen everything have you?

Congratulations GA junior, a great effort. Interestingly the total of votes from Geelong players had J Selwood as their MVP ;)

How does Joel Selwood win the most courageous player award? Good player but I can think of plenty more who are more courageous.

It wouldn't be a long list ahead of J Selwood for most courageous Brodlach.

I don't have any problem with the awards for GAJ and Selwood ... well deserved

On the Brownlow, IMO it's as much a flaw in the 3-2-1 voting system as it is with the umpires giving the votes. I know it's TV friendly and how it's always been done however the way the club B&F votes are done seems better. It's flawed to say the 1st ranked player was 3 times as good as the 3rd ranked player out of the 44 who played.

It's up to us fans and the media to give these peer awards more status and credibility such as REB has done here.

I dont think anyone can complain about Selwood winning this award. Voted by the peers it means alot.
I think him along with Riewoldt and Brown are the most courageous. Selwood gets the nod for me because he is constantly winning the hard balls, always has his head over the ball and never ever takes a backward step.

It is very interesting to see that the Geelong players had the MVP as Joel Selwood with GAJ running second. But because of each club having 3 players voted in GAJ was still eligble. It would have been interesting to see if each club only allowed one player, which would have meant no GAJ in the voting. I dont know how the Geelong players didnt vote him number 1 though!

I think it shows the respect of Selwood and the way he goes about his business!

I think that Selwood is an excellent player but I dont think he is the most courageous in the AFL. For mine, there is no one more courageous then Jonathan Brown.

Fair enough Brodlach but can you still think of plenty ahead of J Selwood?

It is all a matter of opinion i guess.

Jonathon Brown is courageous, but you also have to take into account, being an onballer, Selwood finds himself in a lot more situations each game where he has a chance of doing himself some damage, compared to Browny. He's as tough as nails.

superb effort by both SOG and Selwood.

love the way that both the lads go about their business

no doubt Selwood will be captain in the near future and deservedly so.
