This thread has about as much atmosphere as was on the grandstand wing today.

I reakon today was not much more than a training session for the Double Blues, though I hope Nelson pulls up ok. The lads did the job that was required and we saw some good form from key players which will hopefully come in handy next week.

Agree, it was like an English County Cricket game, not that I've ever been to one

Agree we did enough to get the job done and that is all.

We still overuse the footy at times and occasionally shockingly so.

That just won't cut it against the Bays and Dogs.

I had hoped that we would've stamped that out by now.

Still a long way to go before we are up to the mark.

I'm probably not feeling as critical as that... but you are pretty much on the ball. There were times when we screwed about and made poor decisions, repeat that next week and we'll be watching the Gowans kicking goal after goal...

Just thought I'd give all the silvertails an opportunity to gloat.

Never happy with a 10 goal loss but quite frankly with the age and experience difference on the park we probably should have lost by more. Port had 7 players in the side with less than 10 games, Sturt had only 1.

I was pleased with the endeavour shown for most of the game.

Was a good day for footy and was a bit disappointed with the crowd but guess that since both sides fates weren't going to change as a result of this match it wasn't totally surprising.

Thought the double blues played fairly well considering what I mentioned above but do agree we sometimes overuse the ball and i hope in the finals when we're under white hot pressure that our pressured ballcarrier doesn't handball it 5-10 metres to someone standing still.

Think Jeremy Johncock has been a revelation for us this year. For someone who has spent the best part of his career around the fringes of league footy and the amateur league, he's really stepped up and played his role and I like him as a player for the fact that he knows his limitations. Herring seems to be getting better all the time and I think Kurtze is probably one of the more underated players in the competition. Jace Bode has also impressed me in the limited games i've seen this year - a lot of players that have had a brief AFL stint seem to come back and have minimal impact for a couple of years before drifting off to bush footy or the amateurs but he seems to have really put his head down and got on with the business of playing footy.
Get the impression that poor old Charlie Sharples is still paying for that horrible last quarter in the final against Central last year. Is harsh for the lad but when you've played possibly one of the worst quarters of individual football that's been played in a final for a while, it's hard to shake that out of your own and the coaching staff's mind - If he is in the SANFL next year I doubt it will be at Sturt.

Without seeming like I'm sinking the boot in, there wasn't an awful lot about Port to get excited about - Milera did some good things, Brad Murray played well and has probably had the most underated year in the SANFL, Summerton has been a shining light for a couple of years and Elstone has a crack but I don't know what the answer in for them, even if they had the money I don't think a big interstate raid would neccesarily be the answer anyway. Feel that the players and coaching staff have to get back to what Port Adelaide football is all about and given their last final appearance was in 2005, there is now not many players who have experienced success at the club.

Port Adelaide actually played in the final series last year albeit an Elimination Final loss to Norwood. Do believe they also played finals in 2006 :)
