It's a false table, too many intangibles not being factored into it. For a start, Hawthorn, Footscray and North Melbourne were entered into the competition in 1925, were given no assistance whatsoever, and it took the best part of 30 years or longer before those clubs became strong.

Several clubs ahead of them (clubs admitted to the competition since 1987) were given a lot of assistance in order for them to be "instantly" competitive (some more than others).

As a Hawks supporter, how about showing a ladder from 1971 to current, that would tell a different story.

1 Hawthorn 1971 2009 910 549 358 3 94937 83863 113.20 60.49

thats sort of what i was trying to say. You've been clearer than I was.

no, there's not been some sort of 1997-2009 dominance of Geelong over the comp. Since 2003 there has been a dominance in the minor round and 1 premiership.

Let's make it so we factor in who's received the most injuries this season, so therefore are at a disadvantage for making this years finals and let them in
C'mon AH, every table goes by games played, most wins etc, not by who was disadvantaged the most when they entered the comp.

I see the opposite. To me, Geelong are proof that you don't need to bottom out. What you need to do is draft well with the picks you have. Granted GAJ is the equivalent of a no 1 draft pick but other than that they've had to build their team the hard way.

in 2001, what number pick would GAJ have been if the father son rule wasnt about? because from what i can recall, the top 3 picks in that draft ended up being handy pick ups! ;)

so would GAJ have been up there with hodge, judd and ball?

Yeah I assume the Brisbane Bears/Lions thing is because they are seperate clubs which merged, as opposed to the swans who were one club who relocated.

Ladder from 1925-1960 (Hawk won first flag in 61)
1 Collingwood 1925 1960 708 469 232 7 63242 53908 117.31 66.74
2 Carlton 1925 1960 676 417 252 7 59351 52214 113.67 62.20

4 Essendon 1925 1960 688 400 279 9 59688 53749 111.05 58.79
5 Richmond 1925 1960 681 390 282 9 59047 53890 109.57 57.93
6 Geelong 1925 1960 651 351 294 6 55518 51839 107.10 54.38
7 Sth Melb 1925 1960 663 315 343 5 54339 55639 97.66 47.89
8 Fitzroy 1925 1960 659 301 348 10 52446 54311 96.57 46.43
9 Footscray 1925 1960 659 296 356 7 50485 52084 96.93 45.45
10 St Kilda 1925 1960 645 228 410 7 47566 56715 83.87 35.89
11 Nth Melb 1925 1960 656 217 435 4 47484 57992 81.88 33.38
12 Hawthorn 1925 1960 650 175 471 4 45457 58573 77.61 27.23

A point from that is how much better Footscray went than the other two sides admitted in 1925
