Benny has been fantastic for the Cows, but IMHO the correct decision has been made

It's a pity clubs must delist a certain amount of players at the end of each year. It's also a pity Hart has gone out the same way as Rehn, Modra, McGuiness, A.Jarman and McDermott before him. I guess that is the way professional football is and I do believe the Crows have made the correct decision to move forward in the future.

Blue Boy

just wondering,

1. how has this been handled badly ?

2. how could it of been handled better ?

botton line, their is no easy way of soft way of handling these types of decisons, Ben thought he had 1 or 2 more years, while the crows thought the club was carrying too much risk, given late season injuries and the number of players that are 30+

Ben is 35 next year, is best footy is well behind him and his body has not held up to the demands of AFL footy for 2 seasons.

The club gave smart an extra season and in the end he was selected for his final game on compasionate reasons rather then form, I would not want to go out in this manner

apology Ben :)

but unfortunately it does not make his body younger, last two seasons he just could not get on the park regularly

personally I want to remember him for the super player he was, not a player that had that 1 too many seasons

He wouild be a fantastic mentor for the younger players on the list, he was an original crow, played his first AFL game at 17, let's hope he accepts an off field role at the club

I have heard numeous retired players who played 90% of their footy at one club only to play their final year or two at another club say in hinsight they wish that they retired as a one club player instead of playing a final year off the bench or with injuries and being in and out the side and having minimal impact

I hope Ben considers this in his decision making

this is why I believe some clubs are keen on him - not to mention letting them in on a few of the crows secrets

I hope Voss doesnt do same and he goes out with dignity, though it would be great for him to rack up another I think 15 games to make the 300 game mark. PS- I dont want Hart playing for Brisbane!! :x

AFC dumped the statement to the press with some obvious issues - eg Ben still wants to play and the AFC had thought he was finished !!! We are talking about a bloke who has played 311 games for this club and I think he deserves a little better.

This has Rehn and Modra written all over it !!!

I feel that it could of been better handled with a dual statement or even holding off a little longer until Ben had made up his mind properley on what he wanted to do. As it is captain obvious what the AFC had there minds made up.

You are correct about no easy way but I still today think that the AFC has f!@#ed it up !!!

32 years of age - but you already know this !!!!

Yes Smart did go 1 season to long - but Hart still has something to offer I feel and I hope he goes on to show them that they made the wrong decision as Rehn and Modra did.
It is what it is !!!

totally agree with you blueboy, surely the two parties sat down together and worked out what each other wanted, if both wanted out then a dual statement wouldve been perfect, makes me think he wants to play on else where, why not? could benefit a AFL team somewhere...just not adelaide the team he has played 311 games for...
