Laidley in picture for Saints job
By Greg Denham and Chip Le Grand
October 03, 2006 ST Kilda will broaden its search for a new coach this week, and Kangaroos coach Dean Laidley is likely to be approached about his interest.

Laidley is under contract with the Kangaroos until the end of next season, but it is believed he could be tempted to move to Moorabbin as a replacement for Grant Thomas, who was axed last month.

While a number of senior coaches have held informal discussions with the Saints, Laidley could become a genuine target.

With 14 other senior coaches contracted for next season and either highly unlikely to move or already rejected by St Kilda, Laidley remains the only contracted senior coach that could satisfy the Saints' requirements.

do the saints have a strategy or are they just asking everyone

when Thomas got the boot the club released in a statement that the new coach must have premiership experience either as a coach or player

Lyon does not,
Cresswell, I don't think he does ??

Then I heard the President say on the Couch that they are looking for a new age coach such as Roo's, Woosha and Craig, but Pagen and Malthouse have also been linked as targets

i am confused by is the clubs actual criteria

ST KILDA's aggressive search for a replacement for coach Grant Thomas has identified Chris Connolly as a potential target.

News of the club's interest in the Fremantle coach came after St Kilda confirmed yesterday it would interview Kangaroos coach Dean Laidley for the vacant position.

The Saints continued push to find the best possible candidate led the club to interview Dockers assistant Mark Harvey in Melbourne on Monday.

"We owe it to ourselves, we've got to interview those people who have the credentials," St Kilda president Rod Butterss said.

SD Say's

so one good season makes you an outstanding coach, lets face it player power forced Connolly to change freo's game style rather then good coaching, if you decide to head hunt, you need to head hunt against a specific selection criteria

this process is becoming as laughable as the leadership rotation policy

Only St Kilda could turn the process of finding a new coach, into a three ring circus.

Also had a laugh at how Riewoldt said on recieving his B&F award, that Thomas had made the players mentally tougher, while blubbing...........again.

Syd's membership application - The Saints' reply

Postby Rik E Boy » Thu Oct 05, 2006 8:43 am

Dear Mr Dog,

The St Kilda football club regretfully decided to decline your application to be a member of Australia's longest running comedy act. Due to your continual employment and overabundance of intelligence, we felt it was inappropriate that someone with your personal attributes should become a member of our great club.

Please feel free to re-apply next season. The selection committee has offered a few suggestions to aid you in your quest.

1. Quit your job.
2. Sniff glue for six months to remove excess brain cells.
3. Get a tattoo on your face.
4. Shave your head.
5. Shave it again.
6. To prepare yourself for the constant pain of being a St Kilda member, slash your arms and legs with razor blades every night.

If you decide the above actions are not feasible, perhaps you could consider applying for the coaching position. All you would have to do then is complete step 2.

your sincerely,

Simon Templar

Dear Mr Simon Templar

In regards to my denial of membership status, I wish to appeal the decision on the following grounds

1. In 1979 when I won my U/9 B&F I cried when I made my acceptance speech when thanking my coach

2. I have played crucial games when half fit, In 1987 I cut my cast off and played in the GF half fit with a broken wrist

3. I have leadership experience, was Captain at senior level, BUT FOR 1 YEAR ONLY, so I meet your rotation policy

4. Even though I don't have a shaved head, I have modeled my Mullet on my mentor "The G Train"

5. Finally, like Kosi, I have the coordination of a shopping trolley with a busted front wheel

In light of this new information I ask you to reconsider my application as a denial may force my to exile (Gold Coast) and a fate worse then death - Kangas member
