Melbourne vs Port

Talk on the national game

In the end i couldnt help but laugh at the amateur mistakes made by both teams (In particularly Port). Perhaps give P.Burgoyne a farewell home game (has given 12 years of good service) but his efforts yesterday were the WORST i have seen ever by an AFL player.

Pettigrew has consistently shown he is not up to AFL standard.

Rather tellingly in our constant embarrasing losses (WB, Melb, WCE, C'wood, Sydney) it is the usual suspects that are in our best players - Cassisi, Surjan, Carlisle & K Cornes.

Carlile? Got to be kidding. What has he ever done that was any good? In the same category as everyone else in the Power side - Excluding K & C Cornes, Gray, Surjan & Cassisi.
The majority of the team clearly aren't switched on and don't want to be out there. Surely there is something going on much deeper than meets the eye.

You are very wrong about Carlile he is solid as all full backs should be. Not a tough as to keep Robertson quiet I'll admit and we only saw Robbo on 3 occasions yesterday, each time to kick a goal.

My thoughts on the rest of the squad will be posted in a new thread shortly.
If you want to go quickly, go alone.

If you want to go far, go together.

Agree.

Davenport was ok too, while Rodan tried to create.

Yep Davenport is playing for his career and it shows. Still coming to grips with the speed of AFL footy but you can tolerate mistakes when it is clearly evident they are giving 100% to the cause.

Takes me back to my point of how easy it is to pick the players that actually care about the club and their performance.

Is he the only one who shows some emotion, and some determination and desire?
He and maybe Rodan were the ONLY ones who attempted to wake their team into showing some fight after a goal.

Surjan shows emotion and is always trying to gee the team up. As do the Cornes boys. Cassisi doesnt look to say a great deal but lets his football lead by example.

Salopek is an interesting one. Has put his body on the line on more then one occasion yet also sometimes looks to get easy kicks and yesterday dropped his head in a marking contest. Think he is more just a player with little confidence at the moment.

Rodan actually backs himself to go forward and make an impact.... Choco instils no faith in the players or the club and what he is going/has done with his contract is a joke and the club has alot to answer for allowing it to happen

I reckon the crows would do well to get a Salopek to compliment Thompson as the midfield toughnut.

Great runners in Van Berlo, Mackay, Vince etc, how long has he got on his contract at the Power?

What about Bruce McAvaney's dressing down of Burgoyne?

Was that Rodan non-free kick for holding the ball/incorrect disposal one of the worst umpiring blunders you have ever seen? It was certainly up there for me.

It was a deserved and beautiful analysis of Burgoyne. What a passenger. Cannot understand how he keeps his spot. I loved his first 'attack' on the ball in the opening minute. deplorable. He danced around the ball & didn't even bend his back one bit. Was actually a very amusing sunday watching the game, error riddled. Was more enjoyable than the StK V Geel game.

Yes, that decision was unfathomable. Where do they find these umps? For how far he has run, as soon as a Melb player laid a finger on him it should've been a free kick.

I think you actually heard the ump say "good handball"?? He threw it to add to the long list of reasons he should have already been pinged for holding the ball.

I think a lot of people have assumed that by Port offering Choco a contract that he would be their next year. The condition in the contract was that he needed to know where they sat prior to the deadline Port can still decide at a later date they don't want him and offer him a ridiculously low contract.

IMO it would be in the best interest of both parties to part ways. Choco has done as much as he can with this list.

What can you say?

Burgoyne-thanks for your service DCM.
Ports problem is bigger than just which players arent good enough, it's attitude and team culture. And it sucks right now.
Rodans non decision-worst non decision ever.

The wifebeaters have as much chance of getting Salopek as I have of fathering a white child with Naomi Campbell.

Pretty ordinary post there Ruben. Posts are for offering opinions on football, not abusing anyone we take exception to. Surprised the moderators did not intervene.

On the topic I don't understand why Mark dosen't drop the players who aren't performing! Surely younger players would jump at the opportunity to play and give 100%, and the dropped player may lift his game/attitude in order to get back in the side. That's been the logic since the game was first played and must surely still be the way to go.

I know the team I am involved with (much lower level of course) has played some younger players this year that have at least brought enthusiasm and vibrancy into the team, and that is priceless.

Don't think so mate .. Salopek is genuine quality, and whilst he's been below his best this year, form is temporary and class is permanent. I can't see them letting him go (unless they were trading upward, like a Cooney or Griffin or something).
