Biglands

Talk on the national game

Postby leftlegger » Wed Sep 27, 2006 9:12 pm

I think Clarke should retire, he's been great but I agree its time to hand over to Hudson & Maric.

The talk of recruiting Gardner could be interesting in terms of a tilt at next year's flag.
Gardner, Hudson & Maric as the three ruckmen with Meeson to come in if needed sounds pretty good to me.

When Biglands returns maybe look at using him as a big forward????

Nup, Clarke should be encouraged to play on as a back up behind Maric and Hudson - a full season with the bays in case he is needed as cover.....
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

as long as Maric gets first crack before Clarke, but I will be suprised if Clarke decides to go on, I think he is looking forward to other things in life

To be honest when Clarke briefly spoke to the media tonight, it sounded as though he's going to retire.

1. Hudson
2. Maric
3. Meesen

Or swap 2 & 3.

I think they may groom Meesen as a Key Forward

I sure hope not.

Maybe later down the track he can play as a forward, but not at this stage.

Granted Gardiner is younger (although Everitt isn't really) than Carey, but his body is more suspect and you would think the Crows would have learnt their lesson at recruiting this type for a last ditch crack within the "Window"

The Big Doc was playin his best footy for the crows towards the end of the year and was in career high form. Its a shame that his decision to retire gracefully may be ended by Patrik Swayziess knee injury.

Hudson number 1
Maric number 2
Meesen & Griffin to take the next step and become the back ups depending on form.

The Crows really need to concentrate on a Power Forward.
It is what it is !!!

With a forward line consisting of who next year? Roo,Welsh,Perrie,Bode same blokes that didnt get you there this year? White will develop in the next 2 years to be good quality,no superstar, but will be more than useful.

my understanding is that today Craigy has ruled out both Gardiner and Everett, you would think Maric, Meesen and Griffen would be setting themselves for huge pre-seasons, the competition between the boys will be healthy

Booney

In regards to the crows forward structure, I have doubts if Welsh and Roo can play in the same forward line and I have question marks over Perrie, so you look at other options within the list, McGregor and Bock have been tried on occassions with mixed results, or does Rutten become an option, and of the youngsters can Meesen be groomed as a forward, so does Adleide have a potential flag winning forward line in this group, you have to say their are some serious question marks.

Damien White, the crows have had a crack three years in a row and the power have been reluctant to trade, so I would be suprisw if they change their position.

Others that may be on the Market include, Bradshaw, he will only return to Victoria, Tarrant, who ever picks him up also picks up a $450k a year salary and Kingsley, who offers little value, outside of this group does the crows make a big play for someone like Miller from Melb

One smokey may be a ypung bloke named Edwards, he is 22, got de-listed by the Eagles two seasons ago and this year kicked over 100 goals in the VFL, I'm sure their will be melbourne clubs looking at him
