VFL Grand Final - WARNING: Contains Spoilers

Anyone else catch the Sandringham v Geelong GF on the weekend?

Only caught from about halway through the 2nd quarter onward, but as a neutral supporter thought it was a pretty ordinary game for the most part ... Thankfully the closeness of the contest kept it interesting, and to be honest the weather certainly didn't help, but soem of the skill errors were just woeful.

Thought Sandy looked to have it in the bag and perhaps should have been further ahead at the last break, but was enthralling viewing watching the Cats storm home, and but for a throughly inexplicable free kick against Nick Batchelor as they surged forward, they may well have squared the game away with 5 mins to play and the breeze at their backs ... The Dragons however steadied as only the high quality teams can in finals.

As a SANFL fan the game actually made me feel better toward the umps we have, with the abovementioned free kick and another to Sauntner in the goalsquare in the 3rd quarter being amongst the poorest of the day.

would have loved to have watched it as a cats fan but i was at ADELAIDE OVAL.

i got a match report from a mate this morning who says the same as you in that Geelong would have probably won if it wasnt for that poor umpiring decision.

it would be a concern if the skill level was a worry given the number of AFL listed players that were in the match.

I watched the whole game. Yes, the umpiring was crap, but Geelong didn't lose the Grand Final due to the umpiring. Here's how we lost our latest Grand Final.

1. On a wet, blustery day Geelong included Henry Playfair, Matthew McCarthy, Charlie Gardinner, Nathan Ablett, Kent Kingsley, Trent West and Mark Blake. Cook, a top player in the prelim was omitted for McCarthy. Apparently we have a policy that says 'AFL blokes first'. Too bad we don't have a 'let's pick the best possible squad to win a premiership' policy.

2. On a wet, blustery day Geelong did not adapt and attempted to play a high possession style of football. The amount of times we handballed below the kness of players 180cm plus was laughable.

3. Dumb football. We are the masters.

4. Charlie Gardinner. Waste of space. Bye bye loser, I'll barrack for Port next season if he doesn't get the arse. He is useless, I reckon I could play better than him.

5. Experience in midfield. Geelong had only one experienced midfielder, Skipper James Byrne who played a top game for the Catters. Prismall, Varcoe, Davenport and Bactchelor will all be top players on their day but they are undersized and Poyas, Read and Liddell dominated them. Even David Gallagher is bigger than those blokes.

The umpires was just one of the factors of the game. Geelong was carp for three quarters and deserved to lose by over eight goals and yes Saunter is a Matty Lloyd diving wanna be poofter.

He's gone. He couldn't pick up Paris Hilton! I shudder at the amount of resources gone into developing this dud. Honestly, he makes Kingsley look like Gary Ablett GRRRR!! :x Without doubt THE worst player on an AFL list at the moment.
