''The SANFL, the owner of Port's AFL licence, signed a $2.5m investment package at Alberton – on top of its $1m cash injection with the Power in December''

To be greeted with thunderous applause by the hundreds of volenteer workers & parents who get to their junior & amatuer clubs at 8 every weekend morning to clean up the dogshit, set up the ovals & fire up the barby & canteen so they can raise funds to afford to give the kids a few footys & a set of jumpers to have a kick.

At least Port are having a crack at giving the junior clubs a leg up, sending out tickets, certificates & players to help with training the younguns. Unlike the Crows who seem to think that supporting grass roots footy is handing over a dozen rulers & mouse pads.
Hey soccer you owe us 45million.

I have hear this from many sources, but I guess it is a reflection of how Port Adelaide need to get the younger fan base on side to hopefull in the future get them to put their bums on the seats at Footy Park.

On a side note, why has it not been raised in any discussion about how John James managed to leave the PAFC just months before this revelation about our debt came to light?

He has moved into the banking sector inthe USA and it appears as though he may have been a very astute judge of when to stay and when to go. Perhaps some questions need to be asked about the senior managment of the club through the last 3 or 4 years to see if James or Bolton were aware of the position we were heading too and for that matter what they tried to do about it.

Totally agree. I think they would have seen the writing on the wall and decided that unless they wanted to spend the next 5-10 years working on a turn around plan then they needed to jump ship now and let someone new come in. Bolton served our club extremely well but not sure about Mr. James.

Maybe just maybe Mr James parted ways with Port Power as he could see the writing on the wall vis-a-vis long term viability when the club returned to its traditional fan base in its marketing campign instead of the broader mass appeal he tried to bring in in the years 2005-06.

No point hanging around as CEO if you have philosophical differences on how the club should market and run itself.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

I'd suggest his strategy was possibly part of the reason they ended up in the spot there are in. I think it's obvious James' "let pretend we aren't Port Adelaide" philosophy was working a treat

Haysman seems more on the same page as Bucky IMO

James was also outspoken about moving to Adelaide Oval yet now Haysman has locked in a far better outcome by staying at AAMI. I think the ship is better placed at the helm.
In between signatures .....

Update on this, Darren Adamson who is the Community Development Manager at the Power is doing a great job with the junior clubs around Port & beyond. NORTH HAVEN JFC SALISBURY FC
SMITHFIELD FC TEA TREE GULLY DFC WOODVILLE SOUTH JFC ELIZABETH FC CENTRAL UNITED JFC EASTERN PARK FC SALISBURY WEST JFC GOODWOOD SAINTS JFC SMOSH WEST JAKES FC &
FITZROY JFC are all getting player visits between now & August on training nights. To top this off the above clubs get presentation night certificates for all the players, & as well as getting a email inviting every player up to 6 tickets this round he also sent us 50 general admittance tickets to pass around to any players who had no Internet connection at home.
As secretary at a junior club I've had a bit of to & fro with Darren & he's more than willing to help out & offer any support he can.

incredible springs to mind when I think of the size of the contribution Pickard is apparently making to the Power.
