Geelong vs Port

Thought Port took what they had to from the game ... They were competitive for much of the it, and return home with their pride intact.

Obviously would have preferred a win, but in realistic terms I think they'd be quietly happy with yesterdays performance.

LMAO. We were in about second gear nearly all day. At Lemon time Bomber told the boys to take it easy FFS. Geelong were Foxing big time and Port are rank and won't make the eight.

Bravo CP, bravo. Not everything is about the Cats and if they choose to take the foot off the pedal and let teams get some 'cheap' goals in the last 1/4 then more fool them.

I would have thought September 2008 would have been enough motivation for them to take nothing for granted.

Could have been gunning for 3 in a row this year, instead it might be a case of opportunity lost and only be 1 flag in half a century.

I realise this Permstance but if Port are thinking like you they have taken even less out of the Geelong game than they would have from the Bulldogs game as they would be fooling themselves big time. You can lie to many people but when you lie to yourself you are in big trouble. It was an improvement on the Bulldogs game but if they are happy with that effort then 'the creed' has passed away big time.

I don't think Geelong conciously took anything for granted last weekend. What can happen though is that if your intensity is off even slightly in AFL football that can result in a percieved 'foot off the pedal' attitude from a fans perspective. Yeah we could have been gunning for three in a row, but then again Port could have done the same thing earlier in the decade. I don't think you can close the books on the current Geelong unit because they fell asleep in the last term when they were nine goals up.

Davenport got some game time and experience. That's about it.

He made Joel Corey look a bit silly twice in that second term. Bomber then shifted Bartel on to him but Davenport got hurt and that probably had more to do with his reduced output. Davenport joins Prismall and Scotty Thompson of North who have graduated from Geelong VFL ranks to be pretty good players...and for some reason we retain Kane Tenace!

Fair enough mate .. I don't for a second think Port would accept that on a regular basis, but I think they needed to try and steady a sinking ship so to speak on the weekend, and probably managed that to some degree.

Getting themselves back up and running while others around them already are, is the massive (and probably unlikely) task they now have ahead of them, and obviously that will require improvement on last weekends game.

How?? Still inconsistant perfomances, big losses, no youngsters playing well..... Davenport showed he can play and i know boak and hartlett are injured but other than that nothing.....

I agree with REB - port have improved (slightly) but nowhere to the degree that was expected. Also we were so awful last year we couldnt really do anything but improve.

Carlisle at full back has been the only real positive that i have seen this year.

A few other little things like glimpses from Hartlett and of course big Wazza soldiering on.

Damon White probably showed the most promise as a key position player but didn't work out. Thurstans will be lucky to play past his current contract. Both the Westhoffs need a lot of work if they are to be competitive once Tredrea isn't the main target.

I reckon they'll probably need to develop a different plan or method to compensate for the absence of Tredders, and maybe even Ladey whenever those two decide to hang up the boots ... But in this day and age the brains trust should be able to do that.
