Best AFL/VFL Game of all Time.

Talk on the national game

Lockett kicked the point after the siren to win the Prelim over Essendon in 1996 is surely hard to top.

At the time, the AFL called it "The most imprtant point in the history of the game"

So by that reckoning a point to get into a grand final was more important than Barry Breens point to WIN

a GF in 1966.

Have this on VHS somewhere- a truly cracking game.

89 GF as well. Great game.

There was a roos v Hawks game about 93 on Friday night which ebbed and flowed, lead changed a few times in the last 1/4. Think Dunstall kicked the winner from the pocket. Remember moreso cos I had the hawks 1-10 on footypunt!

Other games mentioned on here are gold, with the exception of the 05 GF I'm afraid. The ONLY thing which made that game watchable was the closeness of the scores IMO. And Leos grab.

Wow some cracking games amongst that lot. Another two have sprung to mind

1991 game Round 10ish North Melbourne vs Adelaide.........Crows first game ever at an MCG in construction mode. (Southern Stand was being built) Adelaide lead all night untill Wayne Carey destroyed us in the last 5 minutes by booting two outside 50 goals. I cried for a week. McDermott standing in the middle of the MCG after the siren with that stupid "How did we lose that!" look on his face.

2002 Grand Final Brisbane vs Collingwood.
I think most people forget just how good this game was. Buckley vs Voss. Big Anthony Rocca matching up on Leppitsch and actualy playing half decent. I think Rocca kicked a goal with about 2 minutes to go but the goal umpire said it had hit the post. High drama.

Wasn't there a game in the late 90's between North and Essendon where NM came back from something like 80 pts down half way through the second quarter and won the game? I remeber hearing about it but never saw it.

Pretty sure that games was in 2001, and Essendon were down by about 69 points at half time but came back to win by a couple goals.

Agreed. 2002 GF was a ripper.
In the rain, the Pies took it right up to the Lions when no-one expected them to get anywhere near the flag.
Voss ripped off for Norm Smith that year.

August 1995. West Coast Eagles v Carlton @ Subiaco Oval. Carlton won by 1 point.
Playing the reigning premiers on a warm, sunny Sunday afternoon in Perth the Blues faced a major test in their premiership quest and they passed.
Both teams were in terrific form at the time and it was a fierce contest.
In one passage of play Earl Spalding cleaned up Guy McKenna with the best shirtfront I've ever seen.
Dennis Cometti, commentating at the time, said "Earl Spalding has just lost his WA citizenship"

That 2001 game was a beauty but I still reckon that Geelong vs. St Kilda final in 1991 was one of the better ones for me. Of course that 89 game was a beauty as well but you won't see me spending hours and coin trying to hunt down that one.

My favourite game to watch remains Glenelg vs. West in 1983. That was a game that the Bloods won 28 goals to 23 or something like that. Not VFL, AFL or even the Redlegs. I just remember really enjoying the pure attacking football on the day.
