Neil Craig = Grant Thomas?

Talk on the national game

Neil Craig = Grant Thomas?

Postby Dutchy » Sat Sep 23, 2006 11:14 pm

Was listening to the post match media conference with Neil Craig tonight and he brought out all the beauties -

- "Faith in the playing group"
- "Get the processes right"
- "need for leadership"
- "strengthen our resolve"
- "for the club to improve and keep improving"

etc, etc, etc, etc....

Now I reckon Neil and Grant Thomas must have gone to the same school of coaching or are brothers? Their coaching records (or lack of) are very similar.

Even their coaching records/resume before being gifted AFL jobs were dicey.

Summary - both have done nothing, speak the same language as if its the business world - its sport, these blokes arent the smartest people on the earth...keep it simple!!!!

refer Paul Roos and Leigh Matthews who just tell their blokes to get out the and enjoy their footy....

Grant gone, how long for Craig now the honeymoon is over???

I'm not a Crows fan, and I'm not trying to make Craig something that he's not, but remember he is coaching the side that all the "experts" were tipping for the wooden spoon before the '05 season.

Think you're a bit harsh there Dutch given that no one thought that the crows would do shit in the future years at this time two years ago. Sure, I'm disappointed but comparing Thomas to Craig is a bit of a stretch because if the crows were stupid enough to sack Craig, he'd be hired by someone else quicksmart which is more than you can say for Thomas.

People keep saying this, but surely you can't excuse the Crows wasting of another season. To use that experts picking them for the spoon crap is laughable. So your saying "It doesn't matter that the Crows choked as much as any team ever could, threw away being a match clear on top of the ladder, a % of 160 after about round 17, a decent lead at half time of a home prelim, kicking with the breeze in the third and wasting it,and a huge home crowd advantage. All that doesn't matter because some people said they'd finish bottom last year."

Face it, the Crows were the dominant team this year, nothing short of a GF birth would have been acceptable.

Im very interested in how the media in SA try to suger coat this loss. I wonder if the Advertiser will have another team photo of the "Mighty Crows", or KG and Cornsey will say how hard the boys tried and how good Craigy is, and the moron Crow supporters will ring up and say how proud they are of the boys for how well they played this year. Maybe those people should sit back for a minute and try to remember what SANFL team it was they gave up on to start supporting the Crows.

Thats one part we do agree on, not just Cows supporters either, I know a lot that defected to the Power, and not all were Port supporters, 2 I know of were from south, one of them wouldn't even know how to get to Noarlunga.

some of you guys are either on DRUGS or dont know football

don't even compare Thomas and Craigy in the same sentence

thomas came to the saints on the back of draft choices and was able to build a list with the best young talent over-night and in recent years the saints list has been accessed as the best in the comp but has not fired

craigy took over a list that finished out side the 8, the starts was aging and was considered to be a bottom 4 list with no depth and all so called smart football observers said the croes were 2-3 years away from playing finals again

the results, for a club that was 2-3 years away from playing finals we have made Prelim finals in each year, are list is still prob behind 5 other clubs, overnight Craigy has built this club in to a top 4 side by developing the players within the club, Mattner, Doughty, Rielly, Bock, Van Berlo etc etc, now his challenge is to take the club from a top 4 side to a premiership side

you guys are kidding yourself if you think that if craigy suddenly became available on the market tomorrow, their would not be clubs like St Kilda, Carlton and Geelong breaking his door down to sign him

Dutchy, maybe you should worry about the inadequacies of your pathetic club and start looking at real estate on the gold coast because that is soon where you will have to move to watch your side play

and to think the WEST COAST footy club chased craigy very hard to try getting him to become their coach :D

As out *ahem* astute colleague REB once pointed out to me,as a passionate Redleg fan he was the victim of believing in Neil Craig's ability to coach, until of course the calendar rolled over to September and his lack of desire to take a risk, roll the dice as they say,saw Norwood, and now the Crows fall continually at the final hurdle.
If you want to go quickly, go alone.

If you want to go far, go together.

But back in 2004, Carlton seemed to be heading in the right direction.

All told, people wrote off the Crows easily because of a poor 2004. But when you scratch underneath, they weren't so terrible that year- some big wins and narrow losses, and only their humiliation at the Gabba prevented them from having a better %
