That is unlike Pickett, and some others, who have demonstrated an ongoing pattern of "taking out" players not in the context of competition for the ball.

Please.
Don't try to compare Bickleys DISGRACEFUL cowardly act with the way Byron Pickett played.
Bickley got away with murder on many occassions on the football field, fully protected by the umpires nearly every time. He often went into packs throwing elbows, knees and forearms at opponents that largely went un-noticed. Finally, with Wakelin he showed his true colours and the TV cameras finally caught up with him. Pickett copped more than he deserved from the AFL because he was clearly targetted and umpired out of the game.
"out of character" "expressed regret" who cares? I'm sure we could say the same about Martin Bryant as well.
If you don’t like my words, don’t listen. If you don’t like my appearance, don’t look. If you don’t like my actions, turn your head; It’s as simple as that.

LOL what a load of BS .. Yes Bickleys incident with Wakelin was a downright shocker, but probably time to build a bridge mate because the rest is rubbish.

Interesting in retrospect...
The commentators describe it as a "fair bump" in play, yet the ball was about 20 feet away going in the opposite direction chased by another Crows player.
The also claim in the same sentence that Biglands was "trying to block Pickett" and that he wasn't aware that Picket was there???
To my eye Pickett took out a player who had lost the chance to get the ball, and was moving away from it.
He was no longer involved it the play and off-balance, having more or less tripped over the ball several paces earlier.

what was wallsy on about saying biglands didnt know pipcket was there?
you could see biglands run past his team mate trying to collect the ball - lift his eyes see pickett and try to put in a sheperd... he was just taken to the cleaners fairly - if you wanna put your body on the line like that then you have to accept sometimes you are gonna come of second best... shit wallsy is a shocking commentator!

On the clip Biglands looked like he was almost staggering and still trying to maintain his footing to me.
I guess we are all vulnerable to seeing what we expect or want to see....
