Round 12 - Central v North @ Elizabeth

Postby Big Phil » Sun Jun 14, 2009 10:28 pm

So after coming off a much needed bye, despite having plenty of injuries still, the Dogs face a very in form Roosters side at home this Saturday.

North are coming off an 80+ point thumping of the Double Blues, who comfortably accounted for the Dogs for a very similar 80+ point margin the week before.

So taking form into consideration, with North winning by as much as they did they last week and the Dogs coming off 2 consecutive losses, you would have to say the Roosters are a real chance to give the reigning premiers three losses in a row.

I think North have been the sleeping giant in a way, slowly finding some form and are starting to gel as a side with a new coach and a new game plan.

Interesting that Daniel Healy will face his old side for the first time at Elizabeth and despite the fact that Centrals have won something like the last 15 out of 17 games played between these 2 sides at Hamra Homes Oval, I think the Roosters have the side to win comfortably again this week.

Looking at the match ups, with Centrals major 2 key defender out with injury (Yves Sibenaler and Justin Hardy) and an undermanned back line, North Adelaide should be able to expose the Dogs through the likes of Damon White, Clint Alleway and Ben Schwarze.

Andrew Hayes and Heath Lawry will be crucial in defence for the Dogs to counter this Rooster potency, while there are a couple of intruiging midfield match ups, as there usually is between these two sides.

The battles that will take place between the Gowans boys, Scott Dutschke, Ian Callinan and Chad O'Sullivan, lining up against North's on ball brigade with the likes of the inform Rhys Archard, Leigh Ryswyk, Jimmy Allan, Toby Stribling and Matty Wright sohould be worth the price of admission alone.

Cain Ackland has been in good form for North recently, from what I have seen of him, so his battle against Centrals Jonathon Griffin will be another exiting aspect to this game. Also interesting to note that ruckman Brett O'Hara, returning through the reserves for North from a long term knee injury, was BOG for the Rooster's reserves in their upset win over top placed Sturt and must be pushing for selection.

Daniel Havelberg (if he passes a fitness test on the hamstring and comes back in the side) will be a vital cog for the Dogs as his versatility has been missed for them in recent weeks, and with North's tall forward line, as mentioned above, Havelberg may be required down back but then may be able to pinch hit up forward if needed by Centrals coach Roy Laird.

In saying all this, I think many will expect the Dogs to rebound and come out firing after a freshening up with the bye and a hunger to want to find some form, with many likely to tip Centrals. For me, I just think North, pretty much at full strength, will have too much strength and height all over the ground for the Dogs so I think the Roosters will record a rare win out at Elizabeth.

North by 29 points.

As the old style goes in footy..... North beat Sturt, Sturt beat Centrals, and therefore, Centrals to beat North.

A North win would mean the Dogs go from being first and - as some frustratingly claimed - definitely on their way to the flag two or three weeks ago, to being fourth.

Going to be a cracking game imo.

Central for mine ... can't see them losing 3 in a row, especially at home.

BTW, when was the last time the Dogs lost at the Ponderosa (apart from R12 against the Bays last year)?

Leigh Westhoff (older brother of Justin and Matthew) played in the league side for Centrals agianst Sturt...

If he isn't dropped, he will be the only one as both Power listed boys are of course ineligable to come back to the SANFL this week as they both played for Port in Darwin.

As you state, the last loss at home for the dogs was 21 June 08 against Glenelg (21 pts) and the time before that was 2 September 06 against North (2 pts).

Interesting changes to premiership odds with Thornton.
Dogs 7/4
North, Glenelg & Sturt all 3/1.

Dog players can have another bet if we get out to 3's...

Big game for the dogs.

ALot of players to come back in the next couple of weeks thru injury Goodrem Cochrane Thomas Hardy Sibenaler and now Slattery.

It is going to be tough to keep your spot in the side in the coming weeks. A big performance required from everyone this week.

Its going to be a close one. Not confident but my prediction Dogs by 10 points.

Here are the Doggies Squads for Saturday's game against North Adelaide at Hamra Homes Oval:
Saturday 20th June, 2:00pm vs North Adelaide @ Hamra Homes Oval, Elizabeth

Centrals League Team:

FF: Scott Dutschke Daniel Schell Ian Callinan
HF: Chad O'Sullivan Jason Mackenzie Chris Gowans
CL: Kyle Jenner James Gowans Brayden O'Hara
HB: Thomas Dunne Daniel Havelberg Ryan Williams
FB: Andrew Hayes Heath Lawry Lee Spurr
RK: Jonathon Giles Eddie Sansbury Matthew Slade

INT: (from) Louis Hadden, Ricky Henderson, Adam Switala & Leigh Westhoff

Into 22: Jonathon Giles, Louis Hadden, Ricky Henderson, Daniel Havelberg

Out: Yves Sibenaler (hamstring), Justin Hardy (quad) Jonathon Griffin (injured ?)

My guess would be Hadden and L.Westhoff may be playing reserves Saturday morning.

Good to see Louis Hadden added to the squad after some good form in the reserves, good luck to him if he makes the final cut. For mine, the good selection is that of Ricky Henderson, the Crows Rookie listed basketball convert, hopefully he plays, he's been very impressive in the reserves.

I think Henderson may suprise a few up forward with his athleticism but is flexible enough to play down back as well. Great to finally see Daniel Havelberg back in the side, and named in defence, as the Dogs have missed his flexibility in recent weeks and with North's tall forward line, he will be needed down back for the Dogs in my opinion.

Reserves Squad:
From: Allocca, Barmby, Brading, Christmann, Cochrane, Economou, Foldesdy, Frail, Goodrem, Habel, Hannath, Hynes, Kelly, Matson, McShane, Nason, Porter, Reichert, Slattery, Switala, Whiley, White, Woodards.

Great to see a few regular league names return to action from injury through the reserves. Richie Cochrane is back after some hamstring issues, Trnet Goodrem will play his first game of the year after an ankle injury and as I mentioned the other day, great to see Charles Slattery back at the club after coming back from Melbourne.

Under 18's Squad:
From: Appelton, Barmby, Bellamy, Burgess, Coad, Dare, Edmead, Galbraith, Gibson, Haydon, Kerr, Mansel, McKinnon, Rusca, Ryan, Schiller, Trevena, Vater, Waldhuter, Wanganeen, White, Whitelaw, Williams, Wittwer

IN- Havelberg(rec) Giles Henderson Haddin

Out - Griffen Hardy Sibenaler ( Injured)

Always Remember Bignote when a squad of 22.

If there are 4 ins.

Must be 3 outs not 2.

Great to see Goodie Richie Slattery back. Interesting Switala named in both league and reserves.

No Griffin. Obviously hurt since there's no AFL game for him to be playing in this week. These injuries to the kid are starting to get to be a bit of a concern now. Seems less and less robust as the years wear on.

Always remember UK Fan to spell your own players names right...

It is Griffin not Griffen and Hadden not Haddin ;)
