Frustrating game to watch after qtr time - Davenport was a big loss for the bloods.

Westies have improved - North had their best side for the year > would like to have played them with our best combination (Caire, Moran and Davenport as ins but...)

Last year their was a huge gulf between the two sides so whilst it hurst to have lost, the signs are positive.

I thought C. Thiele was given far too much latitude and our tag on Allan was not all that effective either. We really need a focal point up forward - Lobbe showed some promise > Was surprised Borholm was omitted seeing that North really had a big advantage in height.

Lot to like about Westies, think they are doing things right at Richmond Oval (cant remember what its called now). Collins appears to be a very very good coach, Westies have improved greatly but appeared today to run out of legs, need another focal point up forward that can kick a bag, North struggled early but then strangled West after half time, that they could not penetrate their forward line. Allan, wright, Archard, heaps of the ball and when these guys keep getting it eventually the forwards will take toll. Overall an ugly game of footy, again North will have to improve a hell of a lot to get close to Sturt next week, Westies just keep having a go and results will come in your direction

Full marks to West, they have hugely improved on last year and are the only side in the comp to improve this year IMHO.
Last year North came 7th and are playing worse this year and yet comfortably in the 5 now thanks to the all round standard drop.
Best for North were Davis and Allan.
Highlights of the day were the BBQ as per usual (and other good standards of catering from West) and Oldfella from the Westies forum introducing himself to me. Also good to see a lot of Westies fans at the game who haven't been there for a while.
Lowlights were the shortage of beer, the southern car park and gate being closed and the football.
A lot of fans for both sides were there who don't catch a lot of games due to amateur footy and they were very disappointed, discussed it with a few of them and they agree that the appeal of the SANFL used to be that it wasn't like the AFL in that it was long straight direct reall football.
Now for most the Amateurs or SFL appeals as they play that way and the SANFL is like a poorly skilled AFL. :(

Today provided serious competition for last week's game as the worst game of footy I've watched in years. Woeful decision making and awful skills (the many unforced errors included frequent pinpointing opposition players, kicking the ball out on the full, handballing to team-mates where they can't reach it, missing goals from 30 metres out and even kicking into the man on the mark).

North have looked very average since half time of the Sturt game at Unley many weeks ago.

Pity it didn't rain, North would have won by more and the skills might have been better.

WTF is going on with the Grog Squad leaning bin being removed?

Biggest crowd i've seen at Richmond for years. Line up for the BBQ was huge but well worth the wait. Beer was cold. North won.

These are the only hi-lights of the day. The footy was crap apart from the result.

ok, we didnt see end to end goals all day, and the spitting showers made it slippery. but geez, the improving west ran amok for a fair portian of the first half and we needed to combat that. stewart into the ruck and ack into the forward line worked .in the second half we got control of the footy and dominated the play. hit the lead and west was still in the contest for the most part. christ the beer was cold , the BBQ was nice, and there was a contest. what more do u want?

I said the result was good. It was hardly attractive football though. Very ugly game. Having said that it is the games you win when you don't play your best that makes good sides and North did that. I am happy we got the 2 points but surely you can't be happy with how we played. If we play like that next week we will get pumped.

what i was happy with was the way we were outplayed early but still had the character to find a way. west were very pumped today knowing what was on the line, and while we took a while , i thought we put some very good passages together.and dominated the second half.

but hey thats why i love the SANFL. IVE LOVED this club for 30 years. till the day i die!!

As soon as Willits missed that goal late in the last it was goodnight Westies, i thought if he had kicked that a little momentum swing in favour of West could still see them get over the line.
Sorry to say you Westies supporters i don't rate Willits at all, send him back to the Bay or where ever he came from.

No one was to rough against the West Adelaide players today.

The crowd was good today. For the first time, i had to line up for a while for the BBQ

We have improved. Think we were a couple of talls short.

I know this isn't an exuse but how can Port pull out Davenport and not play him.

As we go through the learning experiance we are going to lose games like these. As long we continue to improve i will be happy.

Bring on next week when face GLenleg lets see if can improve a liitle more
