Borats big weekend in Perth

Postby Rushby Hinds » Mon Sep 18, 2006 10:19 am

Friday night before the game, bumped into Michael Griffiths, ex Glenelg Ruckman now apparently doing very well in the WAFL. Plays alongside Shane Woewoedin. He (Griffo) is a long priced favourite for the Sandover (he said he wont win) but is going to the medal count tonight. 21 players are ineligible for the medal tonight due to suspension! He barracks for Melbourne, we caught up for more beers after the game.

All good.

The game itself was ok, skills were down but the game was in doubt until say 3/4 time. The Freeo crowd chant in the third quarter was the loudest crowd i have ever heard, by far, including crows at home, Weagles at home and at the AFL GF i went to.

After the game, went to Subi for a few beers, trying to catch a taxi, noticed a couple of young lads also looking for a cab. I recognised Shaun Higgins & Damien McCormack (Both Western Bulldogs player, over for the next nights game) Higgins is injured and McCormack has been dropped. They paid for own air fares to Perth to see the game!

Higgins especially is a hellova nice guy, future captain material. After 20 minutes wait we shared a taxi back into town, he paid for it even though i offered many times!

Sat night went to the Weagles v dogs game, got pretty much smashed. The Weagles supporters around us were all nice people (esp as winning) but don't like the Swans as they flood...

As they were saying this the Weagles had ALL 20 players back behind centre square.

Highlights was the notes they hand out to all people sitting behind the goals before the game "Watch out for footballs" (dead set!)

And Tim Gossage trying to interview people in front of us. I started a chant "You're hopeless Gossage" and about 50 WCE fans joined in, they thought it was a chant worth continuing on another day!

Had a few more beers after the game, pretty much crashed out.

Just happened to be flying out the same time as the doggies players yesterday morning, i was chuffed to spend a quiet minute or 2 with Rohan Smith thanking him for everything, top bloke.

Sounds like a top weekend, well done to you. I did think of you over there at the end of the game, would have been great to be there - anyone who wasn't caught up in the emotion of Rohan Smith's departure from AFL footy has no heart.
