Coaching musical chairs

Postby Dogwatcher » Fri May 29, 2009 11:27 am

I'm sure there are plenty of rumours going about regarding coaches and we've probably heard them all.

But here's another one:

Malthouse to Richmond, Williams to Collingwood and Buckley to Port.

Who would be the winners and losers out of this potential exchange?

IMO there's no way that Bucks will coach anywhere other than Collingwood if he wants to coach next year. That will be driven by Collingwood rather than Bucks. Poor old Mick will have to make way for the young gun.

The only case for Port Adelaide is that Bucks won't command the premium salary as a rookie coach, so would fit in their budget.

I can't see Malthouse wanting the headache that is being the senior coach of Richmond. He's been at it for 25 years straight now I think.

But who knows?

Ok with Wallace pulling* the pin how does that change the status quo at other clubs??

If Malthouse is seen as by Richmond as a valid alternative does Collingwood move quickly to secure his services or does their prospective lack of inclination to sign him give Malthouse an out* to seek other options?

The same question could be asked of Port with Wiliams does Richmond want him?

Or will Richmond assess themselves as having a list that needs further development and go for a younger coach a la Hardwick, Campbell or Longmire (just randomly naming names I'm sure there are others in the mix too) who a currently assistants at other clubs.

Will this prompt clubs with coaches coming out of contract to accelerate the termination of those contracts to get to the front of the cue to recruit coaches for 2010...

Most perculiar Mumma strange days indeed....
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

If he is not the man now, then he won't get better in 3 years surely?

Playing Devil's advocate, could anyone else get better results out of the current list?

not a chance that bucks would coach at port  17,000 crowd Vs 70,000 crowd $-) :-?
he is a collingwood man all the way.. more chance of malthouse retiring at the end of the year so that bucks can have a crack...

Also the $$$ in the media is better than the $$$ in an assistant coaches role, that is why Buckley will want a top job.

Buckley to Collingwood seems to obvious and out there for my liking. I can't see it happening, Collingwood need a fresh start with someone from outside the club.

Our next coach needs to be on a long term deal to be encouraged to push through our promising kids, a shorter deal may not see that....I dont think Laidley is the man BUT should he get the nod I dont want him to get a short term contract as it could encourage short term views/goals
