Andy Otten from the Adelaide Crows has been named the AFL rising star nominee for round nine.

Otten gathered 23 disposals and kicked his first goal at AFL level in Adelaide's 44-point win over Carlton at AAMI Stadium on Saturday.

The 20-year-old has played all nine matches this season, averaging 19 disposals and five marks as a vital link in the Crows' backline.

"We have been really pleased with Andy's progress this year," coach Neil Craig said.

"He came to us as a tall midfielder but he has been playing in the same role Nathan Bassett did for us for a number of years and he's been doing it well on a consistent basis.

"He still has some things to learn about playing in defence but he is very coachable."

Is an awesome player to watch, Jack Cahill spoke very highly of him when he trained him at the SAFC!

Andy has definitely been very handy this year, well deserved and comforting to know that the current crop of Crows are worthy of several rising star noms (Tippett last year, Dangerfield & Otten so far this year).

Well deserved. He has carried his great SANFL form of last year into the AFL this year. He uses the ball well, most times, and gets plenty of it.

Agree with AF on this one!

although i'm not a Crows fan i've taken a liking to the young lads that have stepped up for them this year. very promising future for the Crows IF all things go to plan.

All bar a key forward, once more.

( IMO Tippett is a better ruckman than forward )

a key big forward. Dangerfield was great when he went forward (apart from kicking the sausage rolls). his hands on the lead were pretty impressive!!! and Walker shows glimpses of class but they definately need a big bloke. Tippett needs to bulk up a bit more but i'd say if Maric and Moran can pull their fingers out they may leave him up there. although Morans useless IMO!
