I can understsand and sympathise with supporting a team that is uncompetitive (I've been there before) but I cant undertstand how yelling abuse at players is going to make them do any better,,,what's more this guy had a young lad sitting beside him and joining in. Poor form by this individual IMO

I was one of the very few south supporters at the game yesterday and it was very punishing to watch! Our skills were turd and absolutely no where near SANFL league standard. There is obviously no miracle cure and I can understand why alot of south fans are sick and tired of all the rebuilding talk as we have been hovering around the lower end of the ladder for the last 16 years. We do have some younger guys in the league team who are showing a bit,but they need a few more classy players around them to lift their confidence.
The club has a policy of pushing through predominately local talent and only recruiting select players. Some of the young blokes we have recruited like Nathan Lyons.Jak Kennedy-Hunt ,Lee Shmidt and Nick Makenna show they some talent but it will take a solid season of league footy and a full pre season before we can see if they have the potential to be consistently good players next season.
The other problem is if these boys become disullisioned and decide to go back home we are back to square one and really in the _hit!!
I do agree with the clubs policy on getting the most out of local junior players in the southern and great southern leagues, but we really needed to pick up at least a couple of seasoned players from either the VFL,WAFL or SANFL.
The club has been burned in the past by some recruits, but if you pick the right blokes and make them feel we are a club going somewhere they might just stay!
Sure supporters need to understand it will take some time to become a regular finals contender but we MUST be competative while we strive to get there.
I have faith in Clay as coach but maybe having someone like Michael Nunan as a skills coach a couple of sessions a week would fast track the devleopment of the players?

The game was such a bore to watch, South were playing defensely and were showing by the why that they were playing that they didnt want to get thrashed, skills were very poor from both sides at times.

Only fun part for the game was singing all the old cheer squad songs we'd somehow forgotten and seemed to come back to us all yesterday.
Seemed to have plenty of time to take pics as well. Here they are http://www.sturtcheersquad.com/apps/pho ... id=5583994

It would seem to me that South will not fix the on field stuff, before it addresses the off-field. We blue-baggers know what this is all about first hand.

Despite the margin we were relatively ordinary yesterday.

I really don't want to cut into a struggling club, but some of South's skills and decision making were just terrible. Clay Sampson seems to put on a brave face and tries to be positive, but really where do you go with trying to look up?

If this were just a one season aberration then ok, you keep on the re-building path.
But how long can you keep that facade up?

Sourjourner seems well-connected with what he says, you surely have to start with he current board and replace the current club culture with something much more sustainable.

I agree on the law of averages (and player accessibility), by now South should have had their quota of "up years".

...can't disagree with either of you.
While we might be "going along swimmingly" undefeated, in reality we should have lost a couple of games - the overall standard is down this year (IMHO).

I'm not sure if it's an attempt for all clubs to copy the Geelong style "play on at all costs", but the skills at SANFL aren't in check with the style of game being played by the majority of players.

Here's hoping it picks up later in the season.

I think Clay needs to stay at South but as one of there favourite sons learning the Coaching caper surley the BOARD can see that he needs some experienced help.
Replace the board with some people that have some football smarts on how to develop a successfull on field club and the ones that fix the off field stuff stay out of it.

The Bays and the Bluebaggers have done it in the last few years ... no reason that the Panthers can't either if the right people put up their hand.

The review/restructure has to be completely top to bottom and back again for it to have any chance ... and it will take time.

Spot on Dedja

However if you look at Glenelg's MO in 2005. Not only did we replace the coach, the board was reviewed and changes made and players with questionable attitudes were shown the door.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!
