Are you sure?

No increase of suspension in SANFL if appeal fails.

In the AFL, if appeal fails, the player doesn't get the "early guilty plea" reduction. It reverts back to original suspension length.

Hope this clears the confusion you are having. You can thank me privately later.

Umm, If you use the "early guilty plea" reduction to get a lesser sentance, why would you appeal??

Where did I say that? Is it a Glenelg thing this confusion?

Thanks for the footage. That clearly isn't a spear tackle.
Uneccessary and rough perhaps but not a spear tackle.
More caused by the West player being so light (admittedly he probably cant do a lot about that).
Just an unfortunate accident, he should get off, I've seen much worse go unreported and I can't believe the hysteria caused by some that aren't West supporters.

Well after finally seeing the vision, I can't understand what all the drama is about. Just a strong tackle on the extreme end. Nowhere near close to being a spear tackle. Good luck with the appeal Eagles/Crows. Doesn't deserve a suspension. It is a tough, hard sport. It's not the AFL.

I'd say that was rough conduct for sure. Not a spear tackle but rough conduct. As it's the SANFL he'll get a reduced one game if he's lucky.

Probably not a "spear" tackle by NRL standards, but a potentially dangerous incident nonetheless ... Also looks as though the lad probably flipped over further than any tackler would have intended or expected - For mine it looks more an accidental mishap than anything.

Good to see Westies no.17 come in fly the flag (as you should)

Im not sure why the rolly eyes are deserved, if it was a North player Id be ropable like I was with the Skipworth incident a few years ago, hebce why I quantified my statement by writing 'I can't believe the hysteria caused by some that aren't West supporters.'

Sorry mate, I thought I made that obvious. I've now bolded it, I can fully understand how Westie supporters would be upset and except for calling it a spear tackle I'd react the same, re-read my post.

So it's the West player's fault for being so light

That is an extremely dangerous tackle. Ben Fisher is still suffering neural effects from it and the potential for dramatically serious injury was high.

He was forcefully driven head first into the ground.

Forget about definitions, if that tackle was made in Rugby League, it would be 6 weeks minimum.

We'll wait and see what the Appeal verdict is.

Give us your opinion again, I didn't hear it the other 5 times you've mentioned how dangerous it was.....

It was completely unnecessary in the circumstances.

It was dangerous, reckless and completely uncalled for.

Sure, we play a game where physical contact is part and parcel of it but not picking a bloke up and dropping him on his head.

That's NOT toughness.

That's NOT good football people want to see.

VERY DIRTY incident.

Shirley has just became a father for the first time so maybe that's where his head was, I don't know.

He deserves at least two weeks break.

I don't think anyone has said that.

Rubbish, being an avid Rugby League fan who watches a minimum of 50 games a year as well as watching the weekly wrap ups, pre match shows and constantly read about the game and having followed it for nigh on 30 years I can tell you that the tackle involved wouldn't get cited and the offending player would not receive any games penalty. In League the play isn't halted until the player is on the ground so if the umpire's whistle had already gone in the Shirley incident then it might be treated worse in Australian Football than it would in League.
It would be a good ball and all tackle in League.
If he'd been tackled low with an arm put between the players legs and was lifted up, etc he'd be looking at 4-6 weeks.
Mind you I doubt there would be too many as light as Fisher in League as they're a lot stronger with a lower centre of gravity so it would be unlikely to be exactly replicated.

PS Just showed the footage to 5 lifelong Rugby League fans, 1 from Queensland and 4 from NSW and they agree 100% with my post.
