Bayman, certainly not a waste of time but will unfortunately as a spectacle will never capture the magic of the old State of Origin era and State games of years gone by.

For those that have earned the State guernsey, there will be no less pride though.

Not what they one were sadly, what I would like to see tried is a competiton between individual SANFL clubs and the WAFL club. Perhaps we could in some way play some games for a cup as an interestate merged pre-season competition? Maybe we could invite the top three sides of the WAFL to compete in our preseason and send the three bottom sides of the SANFL over there to give them a go?

I do think that the top three sides in the WAFL would give most of the SANFL sides a run for their money in a match at Subiaco - would be interesting to find out once and for all!

I think all people who have weddings should have them on weekends when these state games are played !!!

As for these state games
I do have an interest
Who gets Injured

These games are like Baymans Bank accounts, No Interest

The state games in the 60s/70s were simply the greatest, enjoyed them more than seeing the legs play

State of origon was an OK concept in the 80s/90s and watched all of em

These games in the 2000s dont interest me
I would rather go and see Punk Rooster player Amatuer League

Good for the players
But dont excite me, they are just an interuption to the SANFL season

I'm all for the State games because they galvanise the local football community and foster State pride. It's good to put team rivalries aside for a week and throw your support behind the best players from your league as they do battle with the best from other leagues around the country.

With a name like Territory Thunder I'm surprised you aren't aware the NT Thunder joined the Queensland comp this year and are currently sitting 5th on the ladder:

For anyone living in an Eastern state and with Foxtel, they will feature on the QAFL Footy Show tomorrow night:

Another question is should we still play a round of SANFL fixtures on the weekend of the State game? We used to in seasons past. Obviously it could lead to some distinct disadvantages depending on how many players your team loses and who you play that weekend.

That's a very good question and one I hadn't considered.
I think I'd prefer the disadvantage of losing players than having 2 weekends of no footy for 2 clubs.
My biggest gripe until we have 8 or 10 teams again is the 2 weekends off 2 clubs get and your suggestion would alleviate that. Mind you Id hate to see North v Central this coming weekend with no Alleway, White and Allen!
Or perhaps play the state game on Friday night and a full round of SANFL on a holiday Monday.

I couldn't care less about the game or the result, but I'm sure it's good for the players to be playing in an 'elite' group and representing their state.

I like state games but who do you have to root for a copy of the named side? The sanfl site is down they must have spent all their money proping up a bogan local GAYFL side instead of upgrading the website.

Did I hear Jade Sheedy correctly? They're not getting paid for the state game? What a disgrace. They should get paid.

HB: L.Panozzo D.White (vc) D.Meyer
FB: R.Williams C.Ah Chee C.Schmidt

1R: B.Dabrowski J.Clayton J.Sheedy (c)
INT: C.Parry C.Evans T.Allen B.Zorzi

The midfield is Rolls Royce...Allan, Sheedy, Clayton and Backwell.

Still not sure about the ruckmen though, having seen WWT and South in the last fortnight. Young Kurtze beat Parry comfortably last week (despite the utter rubbish that the Advertiser stats reported re hit outs). A big call, but he has also taken more marks than any other SANFL ruckman so far this season, which would suggest he's pretty handy around the ground. And he can rest up forward and kick goals. Then again I haven't seen Parry or Dabrowski in earlier weeks, and an injury to Kurtze would be devestating to SFC.
