One finals appearance in all of those years is a shocking record, but it's not that that bothers me.
It's the way the club is run and the pathetic performances both on and off the field that have finally pushed me over the edge.
I know...I'm a dirty rotten turncoat. But I've had enough.
So. I'm on the lookout for a new team.
Any suggestions?
Centrals and Port are out, but I'm open to any other SANFL club.
Leaning toward the Bays at the moment.

I dont think too many clubs would want a someone who jumps off the wagon when times get tough! Loyalty is a great attribute to have and clubs rely on loyalty to survive, otherwise the rich get richer and poor get poorer! These tough times will make the eventual great times even better! I'm a saints man and god only knows how long we've had to wait and wait we will!

No probs Constance, that's the last time I stick up for the Legs in the Have Norwood Imploded thread.

OK, back to the topic, yes CN, stick with them ... if you've followed them for 17 years then you probably won't be able to support another team anyway, no matter how hard you try.

Whenever the Panthers have a good game or start moving up the table, you be itching to get back and will have regrets.

Hey, we don't follow our clubs because of some rational thought pattern ... we do it because we are passionate & bloody minded, and once its in the blood, you're trapped forever and every sin by the club is eventually forgotten.

Alright fellas.
On the back of your wise words I've decided to stick with the Panthers for now.
I might be kicking myself in 20 years time when they still haven't won a flag, but we'll see.
Thanks for your input.

The word "Have" isn't required in that thread anyway #-o

My best mate was a Bays fan up to the age of 17, at which time he had a run in with a few Bay players at Lennies, and as a result switched to Port (due to our area and most of our other mates allegiances).

Really though, he's never been a SANFL fan since and has probably been to about 10-15 games in that period of time (1990-2009), so as such once he switched allegiance, he lost all interest in the SANFL. (maybe because he got sick of all the jokes ala "Port lost mate, which we club are you jumping to now" etc etc)

I reckon you could potentially run the same risk CN, so better to stick with your own mob even if they don't provide much onfield joy at the moment, than possibly lost interest in the comp altogether.

Adversity builds character, stay loyal. Geelongs first flag since 1963 was 2007. Central first flag was 2000 after joining the comp in 1964. It's not often easy to take the "hard" road, but it will be more rewarding.

Mate, I chose Geelong some 30 odd years ago, through mediocrity, losing grand finals, Gary Ablett Snr, mediocrity and then finally in 2007...Be patient, one day....

Mrs Wedgie 'changed teams' in 1990 from Glenelg to North.
As a result she got to see a premiership in her adult life which she wouldnt have got with the Bays! :)

I change A League teams every year or two and basically just support anyone who plays Adelaide United so I'm guaranteed constant sucess. :)

Having been a doggies supporter for 30 odd years and sticking with them through some pretty dismal times (49 goals kicked against us, about 16 finals losses in a row) I can say that when success finally comes then it is all the sweeter. And may explain why we are still greedy for more.
We used to be good :-(

Generally good advise lads, it brings a tear to me eye to read the unbiased yet correct suggestions.
Sojourner, i have to disagree about this being our worst period in history, i remember the late 1980"s (don't read this CN) we had no sponsors, couldn't pay the players, debt we couldn"t service, didn't win a game for 26 matches, still no home ground (after 80 odd years) and for all intent and purposes, bankrupt. The SAFC of today is a far and away better placed and a better resourced club with a real future. Our current problem is on-field sustained success which will come (as per last nights members meeting discussion at the club).

STAY with SOUTH !!!

You can't go for 'instant thrills' ... that's what is wrong with our modern, consumer based society !!!

I think Freddie Mercury & Queen summed it up perfectly... "I want it all & I want it now" (admittedly 'all' may have meant all 12 inches, in Fred's case but...)

The point is; these things will turn around.

As a West Torrens man, who NEVER saw us win a Final, let alone a GF, I understand but...

That's what its about... I support Fulham FC, I began supporting them when they were 91st in the League & lost to Torquay who were 92nd !!!
We are now in the midst of our GREATEST ever finish in the 'Top Flight' depending on this week's result, 7th or 8th - previous best EVER was 9th.

This is why you MUST stay with South ... the 'good times' are so much more important when they happen.

Where were you 3 seasons ago when you lot beat Port in the Elimination Final ?
Do you remember the feeling you had then ?

Success is defined in so many different ways, NOT just 'winning' - although winning is important

C'mon mate, stick with them because they NEED your membership & support ... not the 'silvertails' from the Bay.

What, so the 2 Bay flags in '85 & '86 don't count because she wasn't an adult????

So assuming she's around the same age as you, at the time of the switch there were 3 flags each for the Bays & North in her lifetime ... and then she decided to switch???

Instant gratification in '91 then the similar pain since.

Good one Wedgie, she must love you heaps!

Not quite mate.
North have 4 flags and a championship of Australia in our lifetime.
More importantly North have 13 premierships to the Bays 4 in everyone's lifetime. ;)
Mind you thanks to me she's had more flag wins in her life than you or I so she should love me! :)

Anyway we get off track, its easy to follow the same side. Change I say but dont change to the most successful side, change to the side with the best alcohoic and beveridge choices!
You're all soft! ;)

stick with them.

as a young (27 y.o) Glenelg supporter, i hear it all the time, oh you're too young to remember the good ole days, that irks me a lot.

i have been a glenelg supporter from birth (Fourth Generation Bayliss), but didn't really go until about 1988. my first GF was 1992, i was shattered.

i have seen us go through 8 coaches, seen us get flogged in too many games for my liking. the elimination final against sturt in 2007 was the first time i had seen my team win a final ever!

since mickan has come* on board (in my opinion) i have seen my team play the best i have ever seen. i was shattered after last years grand final, to me it was cricket season as soon as the siren went.

i know the success will happen eventually, and it will be sweeter when i do see a flag, because i had stuck with them through the bad times.

but as i said before stick with them.

I echo your sentiments 100%. Stay on board, don't bandwagon with another club because you will only get burnt in the long run. Not supporters but players, a couple of examples would be Nathan Buckley Going to Collingwood to win a flag and Dexter Kennedy leaving Westies in 1982 only to miss out on their 83 glory.
