Help me find a team!!!!

Postby Baron Greenback » Wed May 20, 2009 11:02 am

After 17 arduous years of barracking for the Panthers I've had enough.
One finals appearance in all of those years is a shocking record, but it's not that that bothers me.
It's the way the club is run and the pathetic performances both on and off the field that have finally pushed me over the edge.
I know...I'm a dirty rotten turncoat. But I've had enough.
So. I'm on the lookout for a new team.
Any suggestions?
Centrals and Port are out, but I'm open to any other SANFL club.
Leaning toward the Bays at the moment.

I'd suggest the Panthers mate.

Opting for another team will just eat at you over time and will never truly feel like "home".

Following your footy team is like a successful marriage, "for better or worse, in sickness and in health" - Divorce is messy mate.

I used to pity you because you were a South supporter CN.
You moved here to SA and chose a team and had no idea what pain that would bring you.
Now, I pity you for two reasons:
A) You're going to find it hard to forgive yourself when South actually pick up and start winning and your new team is doing shite.
and
B) You don't want to support the Doggies.
If you must change sides, I propose that as you live in West Adelaide's zone, you support the Bloods.
Not sure that will bring you much more joy though ;)
You're my only friend, and you don't even like me.

Definately out of the Bays and Norwood mate, it depends on where you live. If you live centrally go for Norwood and enjoy a decent beer on tap every 2nd game.
If you live down south go for the Bays and enjoy the Holdy before and after games!
Next on my list would be West due to their great BBQ.

Stick with the Panthers mate, they need everyone they can get. Plus,if in 20 years time they pick up and start to have some success, what will you do? Jump back or just say "I used to barrack for South"?

I once decided to change teams to West Adelaide after having had enough over similar issues to your opening post, I lasted for three matches!

It is a lot hard than it looks to change sides, you may struggle to ever really feel a part of the new club.

Still I do agree that where South are currently is the worst they have ever been in history and when you see current board members publically stating that the club will finish eighth, its fairly obvious that the administration is not really trying nor is serious about seeing the club become competitive at the SANFL level which is a really good way to shed supporters at a rapid rate!

I would say stick with the Panthers, yet if you do, realise that in five years time the side will still be bottom of the ladder and still the also rans of the SANFL. It will take generational change to improve the club and its not as close as what people might have you believe.

I would not go for Glenelg as that is the side that rates for me with Port who its better to barrack against as opposed to for. My suggestion if you really do have to change is Westies as everyone likes the underdog, or alternatively Norwood who a, are not Port Adelaide and b, do genuinly have a successfull history and culture over the rest of the SANFL teams!

Chuck, PM me your details and I'll send you a membership form.

There's plenty of room on the Bays bandwagon and as someone who developed a passing interest in South 25 years ago when Cornesy went there am I'm glad he returned so I wasn't torn between the Bays and him.

If you are looking for inspiration Chris Hall isn't regretting his switch from South to the Bays either!!!!

In a nutshell anything good at South ends up at the Bay anyway: Christie, Schneebichler, Hall, Chuck Norris...
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

A bad idea, and something that is generally frowned upon. Who would admit to swapping footy sides as an adult?
What would you ever get out of aligning yourself to a new side?
repeated failure does wear you down and enthusiasm is hard to sustain, but hope is there.
Failure and incompetence are not valid reasons much as they might be in other areas of life such as switching insurance companies or super funds.
Never give up the fight.

Hmmmmm a lot of food for thought there.
I never thought I'd see people actually telling someone to stick with the Panthers!!!

Living away from Adelaide, it's probably easier for me to switch clubs because I rarely get down there to watch.
But you're right, because if they do come good (one day) then I'll be kicking myself!!!

Mate, honestly, in the last 100 years Glenelg have won 4 Premierships to South's 3. Stick with the Panthers or at least try and chase some success....

It seems I always pick the dud teams.
I was silly enough to pick Fitzroy as a lad. If not for the merger, I could be going through the same situation with them now.
Although I don't think I could change AFL teams.

Stick with South.

Chances of them being shit for a lengthy period of time is high, but hey take the good with the bad.

If you were going to kick it in, I'd advise in becoming a "neutral" and not supporting any team just the game.

As Pseudo said- stick with em Chuck.

Will be worth it when they come good. I'm still waiting for the Bays to come good again - attended the 85 and 86 GFs and thought how easy is this... and alas 23 years later.... :(

Mind you, we are back on track now, talking flags etc..

5 years ago we were a basket case, so stick at it you panfer fans.
