Sojourner wrote:Congratulations to West Adelaide, not just on winning the match today but showing their supporters that their faith in Andy Collins throughout last season was the right thing to do. Clearly its to early to be talking about the steps forward that Westies have taken, yet I will say that their side looks much better than the side they had last season, I do think that getting Salim Hassan back to Westies was a stunning piece of good luck as he clearly is begining to hit his old form again and is a high standard SANFL player which Westies needed to bolster their side.

I do hope that the administration of the SAFC is watching what is happening at West Adelaide and making good use of the opportunity to look through the window at how things can really be "rebuilt" at an SANFL side.....

Agreed!!! If only the SAFC could see what the WAFC are doing....

Anyway, well done Westies. Hats off to you!! ;)
Is out of change.....thanks Cambridge Clarrie!!!

Another terrible effort by the Eagles. If we cannot beat West Adelaide in two attempts, we are going nowhere in 2009.

I saw West push the Bays to the limit and were unlucky to go down, and glimpses of the win against the Legs on TV ... this result doesn't surprise me one bit.

Well done Westies.

WA 2009 is nothing like WA 2008

IMO you were a bit unlucky to get a draw in the first game and both games have been at Richmond.

WA were very fired up today and hit the ball too hard for WWT who faltered under the pressure, our skills were poor but I think part of that was because we were taking risks and hitting the ball so hard that you are going to make mistakes, in the past we have hesitated that split second to try and make sure we don't mess up and fumble etc, which resulted in being second to the ball too often and being put under extra pressure if we did take possession resulting in poor skill level.

We are a work in progress and for once we can all see the progress, so just because you only have 1 point in two attempts at "City Mazda Stadium" doesn't mean it's lights out for WWT because contrarty to your insinuation we are not the basket case we used to be.

We will scare many teams this year and even beat a few of them we shouldn't. If our promising juniors continue to improve and we recruit well we will be a strong top five team over the next few years.

WWT need to hit the refresh button. Time to change the wall paper IMO.
Never argue with an idiot, those watching may not be able to tell the difference

wow, I just got home saw the thread title, and thought Dutchy had got it the wrong way around! (I should've known better) I'm glad Westies have improved but thought the Eags were a good thing.

Well done Westies

More on the Robbie Spearley spear tackle on Benny Fisher
Todays Sunday MAiL some edited passages

TACKLE PUTS WEST STAR IN HOSPITAL

WA coach Andy Collins condemned Robert Spearley for shattering an unspoken 'code of conduct' with his spear tackle that left young Bloods star Ben Fisher in hospital

Fisher was taken by ambulance to the RAH following a sickening head first dumping
that soured WAs surprise 20 point win against WWT at Richmond

Crows tagger Spearley went on report- cited for rough conduct-for the incident that ignited a series of skirmishes during a tense 2nd half.

' I thought it was an unnecessary act by the Eagles player" siad Collins

Spearley had held up Fisher in a tackle on the members side but seemed to lift and cartwheel the 75kg defender who fell awkwardly on his head.

____________________________________________________________

Lets get one thing right, Spearley is not a thug
This tackle was completely out of character for him
BUT
It was crude
It has put Fisher in hospital
Spearley must be punished
I would suggest 6 games as a deterrent, however Spearley should get 3 games as I assume he has never been reported in the past?

How unlucky was Fisher
Almost took a high leaping spectacular mark
Recovered and made a 2nd effort to possess the aggart in a spillage
His coach would be applauding his 2nd effort
He managed to keep the ball nuetral
WA fans and myself included and indeed some EG fans would have appreciated the effort of Fisher
To have SHIRLEY dump him on his 'TEMPLE' soured the play

Certain sections of the crowd booed Spearley for the remainder of the game
A certain GL barracaker with whom I watched the game with was extremely vocal

At games end Spearley was abused by several WA barrackers as he left the field in the players race

FOOTNOTE
If Spearley is suspended I wonder how the Crowes hierachy will respond

VERDICT
Should be 6 weeks suspension on face value
3 weeks would be about the mark in this case

Good effort by the bloods yesterday considering our lead ruckman was playing his second League game. Thought Fergie was our best followed by Ezard and Davies.

Had the plesure of meeting our fishing guru in Mickyj.

The best BBQ in the league and the kiosk are well situated close to the grandstand.

You're surely not suggesting it's viable to have another kiosk in the outer, surely. I think they tried that last year.

A man walks up to the BBQ and says:

"I'll have a couple of steak sangas, some snags 'n' bread and....... a diet coke"

Westies volunteer: there you go Mal... :D
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

You've answered your own question, then.

The kiosk closed after a very short time due to lack of customers.

We could open it again just for you. ;)

Well done to Westies on the thoroughly deserved win - you were definately harder, more committed than the Eagles. I'm not however writing the Eagles off just yet - we still have more players to come back into the side and i think down the stretch we will do enough to play finals footy.
