Same here. Have never left a game of footy due to the Bays nor Carlton being crap, and believe me there's been a few years where that's been the case.....

Anzac Day for example!

Yeah LOL...that's one game I wished Psuedo's missus gave me a call.....

For the uneducated: I left 'er indoors home with 2 sick kids that day. All through the game I was getting SMSes complaining about misbehaving brats and her inability to cope. Finally, right on the start of the 3rd quarter, she demanded my immediate return.

I still haven't let on that she did me a favour. ;)

While I'm here.... I learned not to leave a game early back in 1986. Glenelg v Sturt at Footy Park, Escort cup. 3/4 time and me and my mates, thoroughly fed up with the Bays (ten goals down at this point) adjourned to Maccas. Upon leaving that fine dining establishment we headed straight for the buses. En route to the bus stop we heard a cheer, so ducked back in to Footy Park to see what the fuss was. Glenelg had kicked 3 goals - and they dobbed another as we entered. So we climbed back up to the top of the stand, and witnessed the most amazing comeback ever staged by any team anywhere, Glenelg winning by a point from a Jim West kick after the siren.

I have only left a game early once since that day, and that was only a matter of self-preservation; Glenelg was getting hammered by 20 goals at the Bay, mid-nineties, and some opposition supporters in my vicinity were getting more and more belligerent with every beer. Rather than risk a full beer can to the back of the head, we adjourned to the clubrooms.

I've never left an AFL game early 'coz I can't stand the ****' league in the first place. I'm only reading this board out of boredom. 8)

Never ever leave a game early unless u have an important meeting or something on. The only reason Crow supporter leave early is to stop the dvd recorder and not to waste a dvd. (With power supporters its a VCR and only one tape and it bata.)

I leave games regularly b4 the finish, a number of times at 1/2 time.
The fact is that i pay money to go to the footy to be entertained and if the product isnt up to scratch then i've got every right to leave early.
To be called WAP and not supporting your club by leaving the game early is a load of crap FFS!

When your team doesnt fully commit the cause and they put up a pathetic wimper and fail to show real hunger, desperation and a complete lack of competitiveness like Adelaide did in the 3 quarter on Saturday, why should they expect their supporters to be compassionate and forgiving and to sit through it?

I agree that leaving early is pretty piss weak and I would never ever do it, but there is absolutely no excuse for not being competitive during a game. Competitiveness does not require talent, competitiveness is reflective of their will and hunger to win the ball for their club and supporters, a lack of competitiveness is refelctive of a lack of pride and lack care as to the consequences!

Ok, fair enough, some points have been made about entertaining and/or competitive football.

But, people DO leave with 10 - 15 minutes to go when their side has put up a good fight or has been clearly outclassed by a better side. For crying out loud, I've seen people leave when their side was 10 points down with three minutes to go. All so they can get out quicker. Weak as wee water.

Yep agree pretty poor, maybe that has more to do with the traffic situation at AAMI Stadium than anything else, but yeah pretty average stuff.

I don't necessarily think it's weak, especially if it makes a significant saving to travel time or to fit in with other plans (ala Wedgies example).

I've seen plenty of people leave concerts with a song or 2 left to go, and in this day and age at AFL level, they are comparable forms of entertainment for many.

nuggety goodness wrote:I went to the Bulldogs Crows game yesterday and it was tight until the third quarter, there was some banter between myself and a few lads i was with (dogs supporters) and a few of the crows lads around. with about 20mins to go Crows fans started leaving the match down by maybe 6-7 goals at the time... i find this to be very poor and as my wife so aptly put it,

We need you number 19!!!

so i jumped on that and gave them heaps.

anyway my point is, why would you walk out on Your team? if in fact you do support them? have a look at the Power Kangas match, 5 goals down with 8 mins to go and just got pipped...

just a thought...
also look at the Western Bulldogs Vs ST kilda two weeks ago, alot of People left the game last week and it would not have been saints supporters.

I have no problem with anyone leaving when they friggin well like. If the result is over why not?.If the players are 6 goals down with 3 min to play do you really think they notice? I attend games while on call and if leaving 3 min early means not having to worry about being caught in a jam and me being able to respond as required what business of it is it to anyone else. Its the difference between being able to go and not....Jesus just be thankfull those leaving early are there .
