Woodville Oval is a fantastic suburban venue, one for which us Sturt supporters would kill for. Pity your supporters don't turn up to appreciate what they have available to them. :-??

You're exactly right there, I am sick of our supporters not rocking up, sick of it.

In today's tiser the surface was listed as questionable. My impression was that it was in great nick. I think it's a fantastic oval and complex. As I live in west croydon i have seen the eags a few times and always been impressed with the venue. Was the southern bar open? Couldn't tell from the stands. But you are right it's a bloody long way for a denizen of Unley oval!!! ;) ;)

When I saw finals at suburban ovals my first thought was oval avenue. What is the surface like after a winter? I've only been there early in the season.

I believe the concern is the cricket pitch area after a wet winter. At present, the oval is in great condition.

Usually there's one open down the southern end I think, if it wasn't open, I can't understand why. Maybe CD has the answer.

Obviously weren't expecting so many Eagles supporters to turn up! ;)

I was at the Southern End and it was open. Sturt supporters obviously aren't used to walking around a decent sized ground for a drink! ;)

Do you mean the building with the big "CANTEEN" sign? Looked like a good place for a pie or some hot chips for seagull Cicca ;)

I think zipzap is referring to the tin shed just to the south of the granstand, on the grass. It used to have beer. It was closed on Saturday, a pity cos that's where many opposition supporters stand for Oval Ave games, incl. on Sat. So many were walking to the tent behind the northern goals, through the family friendly area...

That beer shed that ZZ & Purch are talking about was definately closed on Saturday.
Since I had my two young daughters with me at the game, it was too long a walk to get a drink. WWT loss, no profit from me this time as I would normally have 2 or 3 beverages during the game. I would not have been the only one either.
Perhaps , since they struggle to get a crowd, they struggle to get volunteers to operate the facility ??

Simple fact is it was a reality check as to where we are as a club.

And thanks for the laugh to those Sturt supporters who claim Payne is one of their best players after just 6 rounds of the year, compared to those established players from both sides who were missing.

Obviously you need a laugh after Saturdays performance, so we're happy to oblige..A happy Eagle is a happy forum!!
I think Payne has been brought up just as a counter to the excuses brought up by WWT supporters, I have mentioned his name including him into the argument as he is our main recruit for this year, probably one of our only ones! As yet he hasn't been given the chance to prove himself through injury. But at least he hasn't been dropped through form!!!

Well this Eagle is Angry  But I'm not about to make a record out of it ;)

Should have quoted Rhino's post when he said Payne was in your top ten players - after he's been here for all of 6 rounds  Then, again, perhaps I just took the bait

Dutchy, this topic should be about the great footy Sturt played and all credit to them.
As we state on our website we were outclassed.

This year we have made the stands, the cricket club hill the area for families, the food and merchandise tents and special events eg the ladies tent.
For the drinkers the bars are in the clubrooms, on the scoreboard hill, and behind the new practice wickets.

Appreciate the comments here about where the booths are placed.

I think all grounds should give some thought to signage on where the beer tents are.

Certainly wasn't obvious on Saturday.

maybe you should put your hand up to go to the toilet and the weslo security staff can take you by the hand and show you where the toilets are too.......

You can be smug that YOU knew where the facilities were (nyah nyah) but your club is losing coin from once-a-year visitors (who numbered a lot more than their hosts) who aren't accustomed to trekking half way around the ground to what looks like a pie canteen in the slight hope that they sell grog amongst the donuts and iced coffee.

I turn up to Eagles games when I can, I get to more if the juniors weren't at other grounds.

The 4 or 5 blokes I stand with would all have 4 or 5 cans (drinking responsibly, of course) in an afternoon. On Saturday we had 2 each. Couldn't be stuffed with the walk.

A can costs the club $1.50.
Therefore, that would be $32 profit for you eagles.

If we,
a) knew where the bar was and
b) had one at least half the ground away,
the eagles would have have made a profit from us of between $64 and $100

So how much coin is lost to the Eagles amongst likeminded blue fans to myself, who couldn't be bothered with the walk? Remembering that at a conservative estimate the 2000+ crowd was weighted 2:1 in favour of Sturt fans.

The Eagles loss, I think.

How many times......... there are beer facilities at both ends of the ground! Surely your RM Williams are good for walking as well as Horseriding? Anyway, obviously the Eagles don't need the money like Sturt do at the moment? ;) See you in Round 15 (where hopefully the facilities at Unley are well marked.......), both teams need to move on and concentrate on winning against the two powerhouses of the competition; South and West.

How many times....... does he have to tell you that if the CANTEEN at the southern end had a sign saying beer he would have known there was alcohol sold at both ends of the ground.

Sorry, my bad - I would have thought the West End sign that sits next to the Coke sign on top of the Canteen would have been a give away, but obviously not. I'll ask the club to put those footprints on the ground next time 'follow the yellow brick road' style! ;)
