Winning ugly is the theme. Just glad we're 5-2....will take that.

Thought the Bays controlled it pretty well today just couldn't convert.

The clash with the Umps & the Cocks was just stupidity at it's finest.

And glad to see Hackland has improved since leaving Carlton......

U gotta move on with the Ackland thing SJABC, don't blame him, he was in a very ordinary team at Carlton and not up to AFL level but he has been good for us this year.Today he was beaten (why did Glenelg double team him if he's so piss weak?) but I'd rather have him than not have him.

As I said on Snouts during the week
Memo to Cranny, Ackland is lazy footballer who won't chase and do the one percentages (unless he's dramatically changed his stripes)..

Wasn't far off the mark, but OK play on.....

I think its a bit more than that but whatever, his job is to win the taps and let Allan and Wright do the rest, we are winning more ball from centre bounces (today aside) than we have for the past few years so I see that as a plus, each to their own.

Umpiring was standard. They made a few surreal calls but they went both ways.

One team might have had pissweak tackling and intensity, but the other team had pissweak goalshooting and defensive pressure.

VERY big call, 'coz Duldig has regularly carved up North in recent years.

Having said that, Kirky handled himself quite well. Got a gong in the pressies.

it was lucky that the game was close today otherwise there wouldve probable been very little interest in the last quarter as it wasnt an exciting match although it was never going to be especially in teh 2nd half when north had a 16 man defence for a lot of it. i have no idea why north would play that way with the likes of alleway, stewert and gill as marking targets with ryswyk and younie and smaller types.

we absolutely murdered north in the inside 50 count with 60 to low 30s but we found it hard to score with so many defenders in the way

umpiring in the first half was terrible, special mention to tony dey for his terrible performace - twice just of the ball backewell was put in a headlock by a north player and twice dey put the whistle to his mouth and then for some reason didnt blow.

surely the sanfl and/or north adelaide must have forseen a clash coming with the guernseys - a bit like the afl a few years back when the umps worn yellow with dark blue shorts in a hawthorn match

They had to because of the zone Glenelg employed.
The ball couldn't get down to the forward line because Glenelg moved everyone into a zone.
It was a zone versus a flood, both a blight on the game, we need a Geelong or two in the SANFL to try and get around them and improve the standard of play.

I found it quite interesting taking note of the styles of play today and being sober for a change, it doesn't happen too often!

As a North supporter I certainly can't be critical as we almost won a game that we were clearly 6-9 goals worse than. I'd be more critical of when the Bays went defensive if I was a Bays fan as that should have cost them the game but North didn't have the skill to make them pay but you'd expect that of the side that came 7th last year.

We now have a 2 week break, 3 weeks off this year before we even play a side that came below us last year! Weirdo draw!
Looking forward to getting Sporn, Archard, Schwarze and a few others back as they'll make a big difference too.

todd grima's report,
i asked a glenelg official what was it all about & got told there was nothing in it & it goes as has been posted todd said to wade thompson you're a 'fat c@#t' but the umpire 'heard' 'black c@#t'..........i would believe todds version given there was no reaction from any north player including wade

bays smashed north in most aspects of the game today apart from the most important stat of them all........the scoreboard

i thought this was glenelgs best 4 quarter game of the year (so far)
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

I wouldn't say North were 'smashed' ... the Bays certainly had more of the ball but skills and decision making up forward were below par (again).

I'd agree it was a more consistent effort than recent weeks and they began to run through the middle again but we would have lost the 2 points if the timekeeper had scratched his arse at the end.

The biggest positive is that somehow we are 2nd with a 5-2 record ... with the potential for a lot of improvement to come.

Agree with as far as reactions go, noone reacted except for the umpire, that's what worries me with these sort of rules is that they just go on what someone thinks they hear which in my experience can differ greatly especially in the middle of a sporting contest.
If Wade heard nothing untoward (which I'd suggest by his reaction), noone else heard anything untoward and Todd says he said nothing untoward then its a non issue and it's a good result if all involved can move on.
So many times in this day and age common sense isn't shown but by all reports it looks like it will in this case and that's a very good result IMHO.

It does add to my point earlier, should umpires be reversing decisions merely on what they think they hear?
I think not.

PS I agree with Bayman, being at the game today I certainly had the feeling that North were getting smashed for most of the day, North showed some good signs in the first quarter and late in the game when Glenelg went defensive but IMHO Glenelg were by far the superior team today and should have won by about 5 goals in the end. Needless to say we'll be a different proposition if we meet them next time with Archard, Schwarze, Sporne, etc but that's all hypothetical as they could be back playing 10 goal better footy like they were last year.

Sounds like the report just shows that umpires are both blind and deaf.
