0 and 5 to Port. I heard Life FM talking about thier 1st wooden spoon in about 100 years. Personally, I don't think it is going to happen but it still is a pretty poor start to the season.

As I said to my Port supporter mate of mine, I wouldn't be disheartened. Looking at the Port list vs the Sturt list, the Port list is very inexperienced. The concern is that their experience lies outside of their matchwinners. Ah Chee isn't going to win games from Full Back/CHB. Micklejohn and Maric (albeit a part time Magpie) aren't going to win games off their own boot, nor is Clayton these days (reason being he'll be hard tagged all day by the best opposition tagger).

If it weren't Port, I wouldn't think there would be too much reason for concern, however Port might react because of their heritage and history. A new coach might do one thing - make them kick quickly into the forward line because that's the only thing I could see that would help immediately.

They should be thanking Neil Craig that they had Maric!! Pretty poor scoreline without his contribution.
No depth in their reserves either, beaten by over 100 pts.

If they continue to play dirty football they played today they will continue to have less players to choose from due to suspensions from the tribunal.

Kicking the ball quickly in the forward line on top of their heads is one thing yet puting the ball out in front to advantage is another. Every time Port went forward they made hard work of it because of their execution, it suited Sturts backline more than it suited Ports fwds.
Sturts ability to use the ball effectively & to advantage all day was a highlight, their disposal by hand & foot was a delight to watch, the only time Port looked dangerous was in the second qtr when things became physical off the ball, that had Sturt players looking over their shoulders & their minds were off the footy.
Sturt settled quicker in the 2nd half to totally destroyed Port in the midfield & inparticular in the back half clearing tirelessly at will with run & creativity & precise ball use.

I wouldn't call whacking a bloke in the head after he's disposed of the ball having a real go, I'd call it knowing that you lack talent and are frustrated by it.

Coming from a bloke who has started two threads about the demise of Ginever, I'd say he has an agenda - not inside info.
