and time to leave Thomas, your leadership rotation is a joke, it de-values the role and all current Capt will tell you it takes at least 12 mths to develop in to the role before you start stamping your leadership on the club...

Tactically, ordinary, game plan ordinary, preperation ordinary and the plain simple truth of the matter he has not got the best out of his list

No, I'm not going to mention one particular name but Mal or Mr66, can you or anyone else tell me why was Stan Alves sacked? One reason given was that he'd supposedly lost the players but a grand final appearance and a 6th placing the next season had me feeling that things were on the right track for them and I bet if they knew what they were in store for for the next five seasons, he would have been given a five year contract!!!!!!!
Supposedly Robert Harvey didn't have much time for his gameplan but christ, he won two brownlow medals in Alves' last two seasons.

It was easier to sack Alves that it was to get rid of idiots like Hall and Winmar.
Well thats my point of view. God knows what has gone through the minds of
St.Kilda administrators over the last 40 years.

You are right about his son Mal but that happened in about '89 which was five years before his appointment at St Kilda.

Ken Sheldon offered him a specialist coaching role at St.Kilda and after he was
sacked after a successful run(Ahhh.... dontcha love them Saints!) Alves was
appointed after the '93 season.
Would have been sacked though, after the '96 season, if not for Tevor Barker passing away early in 1996.

Mal

This si the Saints current injury list, Hayes, ACL reconstruction, season. Maguire, leg, season. Peckett, groin tight, Watts who cares.

Mate, every club needs to deal with injury management during the year, if the crows lose tomorrow I will not be blaming injuries, at this stage of the year or during the year you will never ever have a full list or a perfect preperation, but the good coaches develop depth, a strong game plan and they find a way to get the best out of the playing group....

In all seriousness, in my opinion Thomas has not got the best out of this list, 7th is not good enough considering the clubs drasft concessions and recruiting in recent years

SD its not the injuries before a game
its the injuries during a game that kill you.

It could only happen to St.Kilda, and its still no excuse.
Successful people/clubs/business DON'T USE EXCUSES!!

And loyal supporters don't jump off. You're right, injuries is not an excuse, it was the reason. You had them covered but had no show after Fraser rolled his ankle. Your whole forward line was thrown out by that and you couldn't score in the second half.

As far as I see it the Saints have a few issues.

St Kilda rely on too many injury prone players to win the flag.

Clarke brothers: Overrated. Give them a heavy bump and they fold like deck chairs. Talented yes, but you are as likely to get 22 matches out of those boys as Geelong is out of Steve Johnson or Steven King.

Aaron Hamill: Dead set finished. Busted his a55 last night but couldn't influence the game one iota. If the Saints don't delist him they're not fair dinkum.

Koschitzchke: Why did he play after that head injury earlier in the year? Should have been rested completely. He's now damaged goods. That knock that forced him from the field was hardly heavy contact.

Dad's Army

Robert Harvey: A champion player, probably the opposition player I have the most respect for but whose influence is diminishing rapidly. Watching him hobble around the park is a sorry sight for one of the best running players in the history of the game. It's over Rob.

Justin Peckett: The longevity of Peckett, who is an average footballer at best continues to amaze me. Surely St Kilda won't retain Peckett at the expense of a youngster on next year's list. Trade him to the Kangaroos Grant.

Max Hudgton: Apart from Zac Dawson, Hudgton is the least scariest fullback going around in the league. Neitz has towelled up the brave Maxy several times in the past and managed to so again even in the wet. Another who St Kilda should move on.

Andrew Thompson: Another old geezer. Sheesh. At least the Cats have a young list. With all St Kilda's experience they've only lasted one week longer than us in our worst season of the decade.

The Thomas 'Ruckmen' factor

Rix is inexperienced so St Kilda leave out Cain Ackland and Barry Brooks. This is against a unit that has Jamar and White to tap the ball out to space to give Melbourne's front running midfielders the easy possession they need to feed the ball out to what is a pretty potent forward line. I think they did it because of the weather but it is common knowledge that GT does not 'Rate' ruckmen. News flash Grant, you are wrong. Have a squiz at the 1997 Grand Final...St Kilda, minus Everitt was overrun by the Crows who set up midfield dominance on the back of Aaron Keating (Yay) and Shaun Rehn (ok, a bloke called Jarman did have a slight hand in the result LOL). White and Jamar helped get Melbourne rolling again last night.

All in all an intresting final but it seems St Kilda has learnt nothing from last season with this year's exit looking a lot like last year's Prelim Final. Get yourselves a real ruckman, don't select hacks like Koshitske, Hamill and the Clarke brothers and get some youth into your side and you might get somewhere. As for Melbourne, they are shit plain and simple. Even with St Kilda wobbling it took them nearly two quarters to overwhelm them in the end. Whoever loses today's game will pound them next week. Watching that silly Reverand with his Grand Final fist pumps was the biggest premature ejaculation since Geelong won the NAB cup.

regards,

REB

Im interested in people's thoughts on Riewoldt

Let me start of by saying, he is a very good player and he has enjoyed a very good year.....

BUT my thoughts are, he has been branded a superstar of the game early in his career but I look at last nights game and the last two years elimination finals he has delivered servicable performances but definitely no superstar performance in the same category as a Carey or Ablett snr

I just think we brand some of these very good young players "superstar" too cheaply
