I think most of the crows and sanfl people miss the point here the licence is owned by the SANFL if it goes under that wont get another one as it will be seen as mismanaged by the AFL. And yes attendances and membership are down but that wont be solved over night and will take several seasons to get back on track, but the short term fix is a better stadium deal simple, dont worry about less money going back to sanfl clubs because if they dont take some short term pain now the dividend will be half as there will only be 11 games at AAMI with just the crows playing.

The other thing people have missed is apart from the possible dividend issue, this entire situation will have a massive impact on the SANFL competition.

Does anyone know how the license works in this example ?

eg The SANFL decide Port aren't worth a bucket of shit, so they come to the conclusion that a composite side evolved from say Central / North & say Norwood would be a better option. They tell Port to pi55 off, and then form a new club called the Northern Morons for example. Can they do that ? Bit like how in the States if a "franchise" isn't performing in a city, they'll relocate them to another place and try there, except in this case it replacing one make up with another.

Can they do it? Don't know.

Those wishing for the end of Port Adelaide are misguided though. It won't happen.
It took them a long time to close Fitzroy down in a city with too many teams. This is a two team town and Adelaide should be able to support that.

I hate Port, but I don't want to see them closed down and I take no joy from this situation. Even though I don't follow an SA team, I (like you) am a stakeholder in SA football and the fact that a club from this state is in this much trouble is a major concern to me. Football in this state, as an industry and at grassroots level, is in a lot of trouble if we can't support two AFL clubs.

It would have to be approved by the AFL for that to happen. So they dump Port, put this other franchise in, only get 5000 members, lose $4.8 million in their first year...then what happens? Dump them and give Glenelg/Sturt a go?

As I said, it wouldnt be a simple case of dumping Port and putting Centrals in. If Port fold, id say the AFL will suspend SAs 2nd license and there would be no 2nd SA side until the AFL run a bunch of evaluation reports to find out if some other 'franchise' would be at all profitable.

Augurs well for a team in western Sydney with no established appetite for football and a stadium capacity of 10,000 doesn't it.

Especially considering the Swans have said they are gonna follow up their $800k loss last year with another big loss this year unless they make the GF

Perhaps they could have 'theme' games so they can get more people to go to the ground ;)

What about these; LOL

1. Find Your Daddy Day - free DNA tests upon entry ;)

2. Mum Gets In Free Day - with a Group of 4 or more birth children ;)

3. New Car Day - a stolen number plate under EACH Seat @ AAMI - Match yours to that in the Car Park ;)

4. 'Member' for a Day - a big '12 incher' provided upon rear- ... err ... re-entry

Now that the Federal Govt. Tax has been lifted,

5. Bring a 'Woodie' Slab Day - 10 carton limit

Got any more to add, lads ???

Should be able to attract a few Eagles supporters with those sort of themes. Woodville-West Torrens is in the same sort of suburbs that Port are trying to attract their supporters from isn't it???

I feel sorry for the Port Magpies.

Let me guess the Power will put the rent up at Alberton.

They love to eat their own down that way.

Wicker said on radio last night that for the last 2-3 years the Power has received 250K a year from the SANFL to do with Stadium adjustment? he also said this was matched $ for $ by the AFL -- total 1/2 a million (500k) a year ---- He also said that this year SANFL had brought forward the next two years payments (750k ?) - I am not sure but felt he indicated that AFL was $ for $ on this too.

Did anyone else hear this?

If the South Australian National Football League (National ???) choose to cut ties with Port maybe they could give them the four million $$ licence they paid for as a parting gift, not likely ! Maybe they flick port and keep the licence, that way they could easily find/form another club with more support. Surely there are 25000 - 35000 football supporters who dont currently barrack for crows or port patiently waiting around for such an occasion, not to mention new sponsers ready to use up spare cash they have lying around. Even if it took time to grow a new club the SAFL could cover the lost money Port generate because we all know they only contribute a small amount compared to the crows. Afterall 25 % lost revenue would be easy to swallow in the current economic climate, who cares if an SAFL team or two has to fold as a result.

The licence fee is paid to the AFL not the SANFL.
