Port Power

Can someone please explain to me why Port people get p1ssed off when you refer to their club as "Port Power".

Rucci is a classic example with his "roast" the other day towards Andrew Jarman and he has made comments before when Neil Craig has called them "Port Power".

Just curious thats all.... :?

Quite simply, because that is not our name. We are refered to as Port, Port Adelaide, Port Adelaide Power, or just Power. None of this Port Power B*llsh*t. We hate it, and I guess that's why opposition supporters continualy call us that, coz they now it p*sses us off.

Honestly, dunno, it just does. Everytime I'm having a conversational with someone, and they say Port Power, I reply saying "Who's Port Power?" There are alot of Power supporters who still use the name, as it was our name from 1997-1999, but in 2000, we dropped the 'Port' from the name.

Don't ask why it bugs us, it just does for some stupid reason.

it a bit like when the doggies fans get narky when us mortals (South of Elizabeth  ) refer to them as Centrals when their actual name is Central District. I think oposition supporters just use it to piss them off

I hate the "americanisation" of teams names.
"The West Coast Eagles" or "the West Coast" is particularly annoying. "Port Power" is frequently used
in Melbourne. And "Brisbane Lions" is rammed down our throats just to make sure that we know its a
"merged"( ) entity.
When I watch American sport, I want American commentary.
When I watch Australian sport, I want Australian commentary.
Is this too much to ask?
If one person does it, it's insanity. If millions do it, it's religion.

Well if Port Power people hate the name so much, why did they use it for 3 years? #-o

its a bit like that book 1984. if you take something away and remove any evidence that it existed eventualy you forget it ever did. calling them port power is no different to saying geelong cats or melbourne demons. port power fans get shirty about it because there told to like the drones they are. they have to be close to the biggest whinners in the league. check out some of the content in their forums.

Here is my tips as to who will win various sporting competitions around the world this year or next.

AFL - West Eagles, but the St Saints are a smokey.
NFL - very open - New Patriots, Tampa Buccaneers, Green Packers, New Jets, Kansas Chiefs, San Chargers, San 49ers, New Giants, or for a long shot, New Saints.
NBA - also very open, could come from San Spurs, New Jets, Los Clippers, Los Lakers, New Hornets, Golden Warriors, only team Id write off is New Nicks.
MLB - should be New Yankees, but if not, will come from New Mets, St Cardinals, Los Dodgers, San Padres, Los Angels or even San Giants.
NRL - Manly Eagles will beat St Dragons in the final.

Those are my tips for the next 12 or so months. And while I'm on predictions, I think Mark Webber will breakthrough for his maiden win next year driving for Red Racing.

That's funny, none of these teams have ever been known as those names you've mentioned...
Yet Port Power were....

You see the point though, you can see why it pisses up off, and Port Power was never actually our name, it always has been and always will be Port Adelaide. Port Power as a nickname became a problem when wankers in the media and general wankers in the street refered to the club as being called Port Power Football Club, so they took the word Port out of the nickname to avoid confusion from morons. But apparantly some morons are still confused, including some who claim to support the club.

In order to broaden their supporter base and marketing appeal why don't Port Power call themselves the Adelaide Power Football Club, in the same way North Melbourne refer to themselves as the Kangeroos, Eastern Suburbs Roosters are the Sydney City Roosters, Canterbury Bankston Bulldaogs are the Sydney Bulldogs and Balmain called themselves the Sydney Tigers before they merged with Western Suburbs....

Get the "Port" out of their name and they might become more financial
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!
