Willunga look to have returned in good order, but i think they're going to have to lift a couple of notches to keep up with the progression Creeks have surely made.

The only progression that the creeks have made so far is on paper, Willunga will definately still be the team to beat this year even with the creeks inclusions.

Word is that Murgatroyd will win the Mail Medal by a country mile if he stays injury-free.

I didn't realise that we had 7 mail medals in the GSFL
So far we have had the following contenders
Zac Ewer will win it in the first 5 rounds
Follett
Murgatroyd who is nearly as old as Allan Swain
Dale Ellis
Hodgy
Luke Ellis
Ben baxter.

My tip and by a country mile is Brad Haskett from Willunga

That would be a fair effort by the 37 year old if was able to pull it off.

Haskett will win it if his mind is on the job this year.

What about the in-and-under Mitch Portlock, will he hang up the boots without securing his name to the coveted medal. He ain't getting any younger.

I agree entirely with the Haskett call. Hes lookin great on the track and hes hard to miss at his size and pace!!! Played well the other night and hopefully continues that form.
Portlocks definitely not getting any younger but as all footballers would say he'd much prefer to win a premiership than a mail medal!

Kick it to your Mum.
I am not too sure what footy you watch mate :D
Portlock would only be 25 or 26. Will have another 5 years at the top at least and more than likely will pick one up. Brilliant Players like Mitch aren't classified as an in an under IMO

In and under was a dubious choice of words. Is spoon-fed the ball from Steele at the taps, and to a lesser extent from the blokes at the bottom of the pack - Carnas, etc, etc.

Is Mitch only 25-26? He looks like he is getting along a bit in recent times. Not knocking his ability, just hasn't aged as gracefully as some of his counterparts. Still a nice looking man though.

Portlock certainly deserves some form of individual recognition within the league.
His style of play is eye-catching, and being somewhat of an impact player, he is of the mould of a player that warrants an accolade such as the MM. Hopefully this is his year.

Portlock is my tip. 45 touches to three quarter time means nothing if you only get 2 or 3 in the last. If Friday night is any indication he's got the fitness to dominate last quarters aswell this year. Individual awards are all about the last quarter.

If this is same Murgatroyd that played in Broken Hill?? if it is he also has 9 premierships and i think 7 mail medals. My cousin played against him in the late 90's and said he was the best player he ever played against. He was just extraordinary.

Had a chat with Rooster the Umpire on Saturday.
The umpires numbers are pretty solid and they are going to do their best to supply umpires for the reserves this year. which is a must!

As for most trials the game between McLaren and Porties was played in good spirit. The three umpires were pretty good with no new interpretations. It appeared as they were not as strict on the hands in the back and push in the back as last year. Red hot on over the shoulder or head high tackles. ...but like the players, just getting back into the groove

That's the one. Will be great to see how he compares to the Burdetts, Folletts, Portlocks and Hodges of the GSFL.

Broken Hill league is a four team comp. 50% chance of making the GF each year...
