Relax max. You don't need to actually do anything for weeks. Just don't leave it to the last moment that's all. 8)

Wait till the season starts and your side is running midfield in the points. You'll look at possible angles to scam more points and wonder if it's worth the early trade. Then hopefully, you'll burn them heh heh.

Get on Mitch Brown from WCE 94k coming back in from a knee injury but a huge talent, Huge wraps on him in the west and played very well in the NAB Challenge from all reports.

Third year in the system and will play most of the year barring which injury which is the only concern.

There is a lot of value in the fowardline this year but just how often do you expect the ball to go into the Eagles forwardline this season? Pass.

Can play back or forward but fair enough, and your right there is quite a bit of value. Gumbleton is another one worth getting on i reckon.

I don't think Gumbleton or Brown will score big points. Both bench cash cow options only.

Inside Football's SuperCoach team.

BACKS

Goddard
Cornes
Mackie
Adcock
Ellis
Malceski
Raines

Suban
Rance

MIDS

Bartel
Scott Thompson
Joel Selwood
Cousins
Haselby
Masten

Robinson
Beams

RUCK

Cox
Luenberger (!)

Currie
Spencer

FORWARDS

Nick Riewoldt
Deledio
Steve Johnson
Lucas
Veszpremi
Higgins
Ziebell

Gumbleton
Walker.

The backline and midfield look pretty good but I'd be tempted to include Rich instead of Masten as a cash cow. I reckon at 306,900 that Masten is overpriced and that Priddis and Kerr will cherry pick the big points in the Eagle midfield. I reckon Rich will almost match Masten and save nearly 200k.

Luenberger as the number two ruck is a big risk. The Lions have about five ruckmen now and with Mitch Clark having the ability to pinch hit in the ruck as well as going up forward this gives him the edge in the race to partner Charman. Leuenberger also does not have a history of being able to stay on the park. Massive risk there in my books.

The Forwardline this year presents significant value and IMO this team has not taken advantage of it. Nick Riewoldt has had no pre-season and the likelihood of him maintaining his 613,700 price tag in the early rounds is remote. Scott Lucas is also another significant risk. If he can get back to his best then it will be one that pays off handsomley but I reckon Hentschell won't be far away and again that extra coin in your pocket come upgrade time. Veszpremi I wouldn't touch with a barge pole. I don't see him as a viable forward line option considering how much ball is likely to be in the forward 50 for Sydney this year. Another 286,400 wasted in my view.

All in all this side is made up of some no brainer selections that we probably all have but they are relying on too many injured players at the expense of some of the young guns. Eventually this side will run into trouble when seek out upgrade targets for a team that clearly doesn't have enough keepers in the ruck and foward line.

And there goes Veszpremi from my side...

What do you think of their Ruck emergencies, REB?

Mate, I've never won the Hogg Shield so don't take my word for it. He might turn out all right, I just think there are better options available for the price. I reckon they've got the ruck emergencies right...in other words, they are the same as mine.

It makes sense though, there are cheaper and as good options who will hopefully become useful trade bait.

Another question, say I've picked my team and have $300-400K spare, what are the benefits of keeping this cash into the start (but having two or three more rookies than most) or should I upgrade players, perhaps using it to include the likes of Ablett and Pavlich in the team?

I'm probably not the best source to ask about Ablett as he is my first picked. He'll lose money at some stage of the season and he occaisionly misses matches. On the upside though he is an absolute points pig and by doubling up on Junior you can carry someone who isn't firing or even a donut.

You aren't earning any interest on that left over cash so I wouldn't keep it there unless it is part of some long term strategy that only you are aware of. In my view, I reckon Pav and Ablett are players you need to get on board with right away.

Other players like Nick Riewoldt, Luke Hodge or Buddy Franklin that are expensive will lose you money for sure sooner rather than later due their restricted pre-seasons. At least Junior is fit..not as sure about Pav but you can rest assured that if he had a mozzie bite we would have heard about it.

I seem to have gone heavier on the high priced players than that list ... altho on second look maybe not

They have a lot of the $300Kish midfielders whereas I went more expensive and bargain. I looked at Masten too but for $300K I figured Rich could do the same job for $144K. But maybe I've over-cooked things?

I have 11 of what FanFooty terms as "high priced" - I think my ratio is 11/7/6/6. I currently have $500 spare!

I reckon Petrenko will play round 1 FWIW

I agree. I haven't decided yet whether or not to load up the mids and take advantage of the cheap forwards or go with the traditional 4/4/1/4 guns structure.

I see, so there is little advantage in having spare cash at the start. Might as well put it to good use.

Dunno. I probably should have replied to hondo as he stated his breakdown in his post. It's on FanFooty somewhere but I couldn't be arsed researching it. The toughest part of this year's team selection for me is the ruck. Last year the Cox/Simmonds combination was a bit of a no brainer that many coaches had but this year there is no stand out second ruck option to partner the ever reliable Cox as guys like Jolly, Ottens and Simmonds are quite prohibitive.

Cox/McIntosh and Cox/Kruezer are probably the best bet but this year Cox is very expensive and McIntosh is a bit of a worry for mine and Kruezer will be up forward a lot. A real headscratcher. A possible solution to this would be the brave selection of Cox/Johnson from the Demons but even that sets you back over 900k.
