Fair enough we want an even competition but the standard wont be there, guys will be getting an A grade game that arent A grade footballers. The comp this season is shaping up to be a real close one tho with any one of a number of sides going to push for a finals spot. Early wins will be important!
Interesting point there BJ, I think that most people see the points system bringing the overall standard of the league down but if you look at the 10 teams in the GSFL in 2009 you'd have to say that all clubs apart from Myponga look like they've probably improved from last year.
This season i think the pack will get tighter. Willunga may drop a little and the rest will probably stay pretty similar with creeks and victor to improve the most (only going on recruits, no knowledge of preseasons etc). Sides this year have pushed harder to max out their points so next year if they manage to keep these recruits the standard may improve. If you lose a local or 2 tho u cant replace him so say you lose Dellatore u cant replace him with a recruit. So your team drops significantly. I get back to the big exodus from E Bay in 07. If there were a points system they would have been in deep, deep sh*t and have no way of rebuilding quickly. If this happens to 2-3 sides the comp will struggle to be competitive. The clubs that are furhter from town benefit least from this as I personally live near town now, and the drive to Willunga is bad enough, throw in an extra half an hour/40 mins to Goolwa, Victor, E Bay, Yankalilla and these recruited players wont want to do it forever thus not sticking around for a long time, points system ineffective in that regard!
As time goes on some clubs will be lucky enough to maintain a solid list and be able to replenish it with 1-2 players per year as the point players drop a point per season. Lose 4 players tho, 2 locals and 2 recruits will make it impossible to be as good as the previous year.
