Re: Adelaide Hills Cricket (Hills, A&EH, TV)
I worked out on monday that I will have only played 12 days of cricket this year due to heat outs and byes (i haven't missed any other games). This is hardly enough cricket by anyones standards as the hca next year surely has to look at looking at some different options. This means maybe, dropping a team from the a grade and playing 7 two dayers and 7 one dayers ( you have to double up sat, sunday on two occasions if my memory serves me correct.) or playing all one dayers and keeping the nine teams as it is.
Does anyone else have any other thoughts?

Re: Adelaide Hills Cricket (Hills, A&EH, TV)
Torrens Valley had the same problem with a 9 team 'A' grade comp a couple of years back. Thankfully that's been fixed and the 7 X 1 dayers and 7 X 2 dayers has been applied for some time. Personally think it's the best format. After speaking to a some Hills Cricketers over the past few seasons, they all agree the bye can be a hassle.

Re: Adelaide Hills Cricket (Hills, A&EH, TV)
The Hills Association is probably the strongest association in Flueriu Zone in regard to the number of A Grade Teams and strength but has a number of management problems.
Heat Policy: Needs to re worked, possibly A Grade sides playing in the heat with neutral umpires the games could managed with shorter drinks breaks etc. or the points have to be awarded differently 3 points for a draw is not enough as seen this year Bridgewater will effectively play 1 more game then anyone else due to have the bye when the game was heated out, this will give them top spot after losing two games. Uraidla may go undefeated for the year and finish 2nd if finals were to be to hot would not win the flag. This would be a mockery!!! HCA need to sort some stuff out.
Number of Teams: The Hills need to remove a team from the A Grade for that exact reason TB, but i doubt it will ever happen. They made Meadows move up into the A Grade but now cant make a team drop out. I think this would further increase the strength of all sides in the comp and make the association better. Just promotion and relegation of the bottom A and top (not the necessarily the premier) B grade side.

Thats f****d up. You have to draw a line somewhere in regards to heat, so i think the current cut off at 41 should stay. So then the only way to prevent the scenario in bold is to put a side down and a relegation system as KJR points out.

Re: Adelaide Hills Cricket (Hills, A&EH, TV)
Didnt think of the Bridgey scenario, doesnt seem fair at all, but I guess thats the rub of the green
I know Lofty are spewing about missing the game against Meadows and getting outright
I know I said it before but Lofty not playing any cricket between 20/12 and 14/2 is something thats needs to be looked at, one day games in late Dec and Jan would be the solution esp when there are guys that can only play one week due to holidays
As TB said the 7 2dayers and 7 1dayers was a brilliant season, played everyone once home and away and gave plenty of variety, it did require one Sunday game but if you do it early in teh season when everyone is keen its pretty easy

Im pretty spritely eh?
After our B grade effort I would have preferred to have stayed up and enjoy the chase, luckily for us there are better bats replacing me!
Whats your B grade going to do?

yeh its a joke, Uraidla will end up 2nd or 3rd after there last game of the season and even if they only lose one game for the yr they will have to play Meadows in their final. As for bridgy who have lost 2 games, they will play onkas in their final. Doesnt seem too fair to me!

Re: Adelaide Hills Cricket (Hills, A&EH, TV)
Well the HCA only has its self to blame. A number of people put forward an amended comp for this year given issues with the number of team in all grades not just A grade.
It was suggested that both A1's and A2's have 8 teams in each grade with a combination of both 2 day and 1 day cricket as was the case a few years ago;
A3's be also turned into a 10 team comp with mix of 2 day and 1 day cricket and the A4's also to be 10 teams but with all 1 day cricket.
Late Dec and Early Jan or all of Jan are the right times for 1 day cricket.
Also season could start a little earlier. ie start of Oct rather than end
Could also start a 20/20 comp for those people that only want to play half a day on sat works well at the start of the year and if you put points on the line then some will take it quite seriously.
In regards to the heat well all i can say is have a look at other comps
Cut off is normally 40 for all teams other than A grade and B grade. Makes sense as older guys and younger kids play the lower grades.
HCA could just make A grade play as stated earlier given independent umpires.
HCA needs a shake up but people in association need to give a crap first

Geez, long day in the field for the pies
A couple of big efforts there, Wehrman and Rathjen.
Poor/pathetic form by the Kersbook/Modbury A2s today, choosing to go to a footy camp rather than fulfill their cricket commitments. The city blokes obviously dont have the care for the KCC that they should.
Great finals preparation on the back of all those games lost to heat
