Bruce McAvaney 'beats him off' - McAvaney bingo

Postby Rik E Boy » Fri Feb 06, 2009 1:12 pm

With the new season almost upon us, the question has to be asked. Will this gem from Brucey be ressurected this season?

He said this one on more than one occasion when referring to beating a man in a contest

BRUCEY: Player A and Player B go after it and Player A beats him off.

Bloody horrible! Hope we don't hear it again.

Perhaps we could start up a game of McAvaney Bingo. We could have a series of phrases that McAvaney uses and we could have a first to post an example of it and points scoring system and everything ha ha.

Here are some of my suggestions for McAvaney Bingo.

SPECIAL
A CRUCIAL FIVE MINUTES HERE
YOU'D KNOW BUCKS
BEATS HIM OFF (ugh! :vom: )
THEY'RE COMING THE BOMBERS

I don't pay much attention to commentators these days, but I recall McAvaney would be the master of making a statement and asking a question at the same time. Things like, "He's a very skilled player ... isn't he?", "That was very clever ... wasn't it?". Does he still do that?

All the time, pretty irritating actually.

Also annoys when he gets lazy and call the action like this: "Player1 to Player2 to Player3, etc", instead of describing or commenting on the disposal itself.
