Out of curiosity, what were they known as in 83 when they won their last flag? I presume they'd changed to the Bloods from Wolves by then??..

What is a "Blood"? :?
If one person does it, it's insanity. If millions do it, it's religion.

A dog called a Bloodhound,

Image

A bloodhound (also known as the St. Hubert hound) is a large breed of dog bred for the specific purpose of tracking human beings. Consequently, it is often used by authorities to track escaped prisoners or missing persons. It is a scenthound, famed for its ability to follow a scent hours or even days old, over long distances. Combining a keen sense of smell with a tenaciously strong tracking instinct, bloodhounds have proven their worth as the archetypal trailing dog.

Alternativley the term "The Bloods" is also a term given to a street gang that also have a focus on the colour Red,

The Bloods are a Los Angeles based gang widely known for their rivalry with the Crips[3]. They are identified by the red color worn by their members and their gang symbol which is a sign for pirus or Bloods. The Bloods are made up of various sub-groups known as "sets" between which significant differences exist such as colors, clothing, and operations. Since their formation, the Blood gangs have branched out throughout the United States, with over 15,000 members nationwide.[4][5] Bloods have been documented in the US military, found in both US and overseas bases. To be honest I don't really like either but I think the bloods is terrible. Just as bad as the blood and tars. Would hate to follow the red white and blues against the green, yellow and blues.

I like Bloods ie Bloodhounds, it always confuses me at Central v West games when the Central supporters chant for both sides though as the Bloodhound is a dog.
Central supporters chanting U Dogs at a Central v West game would be like North supporters chanting U Birds at a North v Eagles game. :?

Yes that was my understanding too - the "bloods" was a shortened version of the "blood 'n tars" describing the red and black colour scheme

Not anything to do with a Bloodhound that sounds ridiculous (even tho I could be wrong)

If there's any doubt, Mark Beswick in the history forum will confirm

this may shed some light on what has happened down at westies regarding name changes, good, bad,or other wise. before the 1960s our emblem was the red and black sturt pea. from the early sixties until the early seventies we were the bloodntars with our logo being a bloodhound.when foster williams came on the scene in the early seventies,we went from the bloodhounds logo to a wolf with his paw on a footy, but the name bloodntars was still cept.around the middle of the seventies the name was shorten to the bloods but still with the wolf emblom in the late seventies around the time trever hughs took over as coach from foster williams, we changed our wolf logo to the side on version and name to the wolves.when neil kerley came back in the early eighties,he was not real happy with the name change to the wolves,so the name was change back to the bloods keeping the side on logo of the wolf, this is the logo we won the 83 flag with.we had that logo right up until a couple of years ago when we up dated the wolf head but are still called the bloods, short for bloodntars. after all that, i think the bloodntars is better than the bloods
