Should the SANFL admit a 10th team to the SANFL Competition?

Postby Sojourner » Sat Jan 10, 2009 10:12 am

Is it time to get rid of the bye and increase the number of teams in the SANFL to 10?

Better still, lets cut it back to 8 by getting rid of Glenelg - South can absorb their area

Gotta agree with this. Spending an occasional weekend with 'er indoors and the yardapes earns enough brownie points for me to get to the games on all the other weekends 8)

If some of the clubs are in as much financial strife as has been reported then I think it's the wrong time to admit a 10th team. I'd rather see the existing resources better shared somehow.

The primary motivator in going to 10 teams shouldn't be "getting rid of the bye". It should be the financial stability of all clubs and the strength of the comp. If someone new can justify a financial case, then look at it. But don't have 10 teams just for the sake of having 10.

I also think we are a SA State League and should be proud of it. So, if there was a 10th team I'd rather see another local area get a go instead of North QLD or NT
In between signatures .....

Perhaps a couple of struggling clubs could merge and make it 8.
I don't think the money is there to support 10 teams in the SANFL.

Yep same .. I actually hate it when it comes our turn to sit out, but good opportunity to catch another SANFL game as a neutral or spend time with the missus.

i dont see the bye as a big issue the only time it is an issue is when the give a top 5 side from the last year the bye in the last round this should always be given to the bottom team the year before.

The bye is more of a pain in the arse the way that they fixture games now with teams playing against each other again within a few weeks. I swear it wasn't this messy the first year that we had 9 teams.

I love going to Norwood games first and foremost, but the bye lets me get to 1 or 2 Geelong games in Victoria every year, so stay us we are I say!

You might end up with a side the nearlly same colours as the Power, just add Dark Blue for a 4th colour

The round 23 bye should go to the wooden spooner of the previous year and the round 22 bye should go to the 8th placed team from the previous year. After that the rest can be drawn out because i think having your last bye in round 15 can be just as bad an effect as having it in round 23.
