The Bye

Postby CENTURION » Tue Aug 01, 2006 8:23 am

These are the games that the team has the bye the week before Central plays them. Rd 11 Port, Round 13 West, Round 14 Eagles, Round 16 Norwood, Round 17 South, Round 18 Sturt, Round 19 Port. Is this fair? I haven't looked at other teams situations but this seems grossly unfair! :x

Intentional conspiracy and explains Centrals missing the minor premiership.

Nah prolly just unlucky and yes slightly unfair.

Add it to the 4 day break after ANZAC day and our luck is really crappy isn't it?

Before making comment on this,I would like to see all sides records' the week following the bye,I would assume most teams would not have an all that flattering record after the bye....

Doesn't really matter. The better two sides usually play in the Grand Final, no matter what. I just hate the bye because I want my team to play each weekend.

Bye last
round
2 North Won South
3 South Won West
4 South Lost Port
5 North Won Glenelg
6 Port Won Eagles
7 South Lost Norwood
8 South Won Central
9 Glenelg Lost Sturt
10 Eagles Won South
11 Central Won Port
12 Sturt Lost North
13 Central Won West
14 Central Lost Eagles
15 Glenelg Won South
16 Port Lost North
17 Central Won South

Won - 10 Lost - 6

Other teams to play the bye team
from the last round

18 Central vs Sturt
19 Central vs Port
20 Port vs West
21 Glenelg vs Central
22 Port vs Eagles
23 South vs Glenelg

No of times each team plays the "bye" team:
Central - 6
South - 5
Port - 4
Glenelg - 3
North - 2
Eagles - 1
Sturt - 1
West - 0
Norwood - 0

So conversely, the team that had the bye, the week after they only have won 6 out of 16.

Great work spelly, add's to my argument, there is not much of an advantage having had the bye,one could argue Centrals get it good playing a team that has had the bye the week before.

BTW,spelly,I would think of all the sport specific sites world wide, you would have one of the most thorough,up to date and accurate data bases known to man kind. =D>

I'd rather face teams after a bye as they're caught off guard quite a bit, I know North until thumping Port a couple of weeks ago have had some shockers after the bye.
Looks like the bloody SANFL wants Central to make another GF!

For the record Sturt were in the same boat last year:

2005: Rnd 4 North; Rnd 12 Eagles; Rnd 13 North; Rnd 18 Port; Rnd 22 Bays; Rnd 23 West

Well thats 6 games but not as 'congested' as what the Dogs have this year - 6 games against the 'bye team' within 9-10 weeks.

Spelly, any stats on which clubs have been 'subjected' to this on a season by season basis??

Yeah agree with Wedgie there. We usually struggle big time after a bye and get off to a very slow start, with the exception the flogging at Alberton. We played Sturt after a bye and found ourselves 40 points down at one stage, thank Barrie for Motlop.
