Riewoldt strife over gays slur

NICK Riewoldt should make amends for a gay slur by starting a campaign to stamp out homophobia in the AFL, Victoria's gay lobby says.

The St Kilda superstar provoked outrage after making a comment vilifying gays on radio.

In a word-association game during the Melbourne Triple M program The Gospel, Riewoldt was asked to respond to the word "homosexual".

He said: "Die."

The forward apologised and tried to get the comment edited out of the program, which he co-hosts with Jason Dunstall, Nathan Brown and Peter Everitt.

The actual story behind this was that keeping in mind that the full version of this was on radio, Riewoldt said it directly to Brown. He pointed at Brown and said "die" in reference to him being asked to respond to the word "homosexuals". (That is, Riewoldt knew that such a question can be subject to this resultant crap that follows any misinterpreted remark. Accordingly Fox Footy edited this out, knowing that his word would be taken out of context, but Triple M didn't (hmmm).

I've just deleted three posts that were starting to go down a dangerous path. Maddog whilst I can empathise with your post from not wanting to be PC perspective unfortunately people replying to it were taking this thread down a path which I think noone on this site really want to see. On that basis I have taken it down,. I will ask the administrators to check it and if they feel it is warranted they can reinstate it.

Thanks for you sentiments Mal which alerted me. People this is sensitive topic. Be mindfull that this is a public forum and while free speech is a basic premise that underlies this site at the same time we have to be mindfull of other peoples beliefs. As we have seen on Regional Forum personal attacks have seen people banned
