Rhys Stanley - 200cm ruckman

Matthew Martin - key defender

Tyson Slattery - athletic defender/wingman.

The above 4 all attended the AFL Draft Camp. (4 of the 14 from SA)

Scott Blesing - defender/on-baller, attended State Screening

Daniel Webb - key forward (10 marks against North at league level in the last game last year).

Taite Silverlock - small forward, kicked 9 goals at junior level twice last year.

Johnno Beech - wingman, BOG at Reserves level late last year.

Ryan Nickolls - tall forward/defender

Danny Sukkel - solid on-baller.

All of these except Nickolls played league last year.

I've probably forgotten one or two more, so dash can correct that, but I'd say at least 3 will be drafted.

Poohbear, what can hurt more this year, with the Gold Coast being able to take 17yo's it makes silverlock etc vunerable

IMHO Nickolls and Sukkel won't be league footballers but the rest of them with some hard work have the potential to be good league footballers so heres hoping we keep 3 or 4 of them at westies.
Speaking to Hamish on Saturday he was saying that Mark Williams has visited him a few times at home which is apparently a rare thing for choco to do. Hopefully they pick him up and he 'develops' a little more at westies.

To be brutally honest I cant see South finishing outside of the bottom three, perhaps Seventh is a likely scenario this time around.

Admittingly South could announce a number of key signings but my feeling is that the board in general are keen to recruit pretty much exclusively from the zones and with the losses of Baird and Prendergast it makes a few more holes in the side to fill.

Clay Sampson is an interesting choice for senior coach and it will be interesting to see how he goes, I do feel that his appointment was made on a basis of emotion and not as the best commercial decision for the club, based on the clubs previous statements about Clay being mentored over a two year period by Jack Cahill before being ready for the role. If people at South really think that Clay Sampson is in a position to out coach Roy Laird or similar then we really are still stuck in fairy land, the best commercial decision would be a coach who we know point blank could match it with the likes of Laird, Mickan and others in the first instance and not in an instance of "growing" into the position.

I also have to confess to being sick to the back teeth about reading in the newsletter about the "Rebuilding" process that we have to go through. I lose track of the sheer number of times South have been "Rebuilding" and I do wonder why our management believe that our process is any better than that of Port, West., or the Eagles who also fell short last season.

So suffice to say I cannot see South making the five next season.

I'd agree with that, hard to know where we will finish next year before knowing full ins and outs but i would expect the club to make finals, but not do enough to make top 3.

I would expect Norwood to be top 3 next year, especially if they pick up a quality key forward.

What about Taylor Walker?
Think he is no good or think he will play for the Crows?
Can only benefit from this years experience..

Walker is a quality player but being on an AFL list Norwood shouldn't rely on him being available. My point was being mainly being made on them picking up Gavin Hughes and Kieran McGuinness, both quality mid size players. If they pick up a forward i think they should be set particularly with the improvements shown in 2008.

At this point in time Norwood's list looks vulnerable at the back in the key bigman department, we'll need to find a reasonable replacement for Bowny and another decent tall or imho there's a hole there.
