SA BASED AFL PLAYER TO RETURN TO VIC......??

Postby GWW » Sun Jul 16, 2006 11:04 pm

In today's Boots N All column in the Sunday Mail, there is a suggestion that an SA based AFL footballer is looking at returning back to Victoria at end of the season.

My prediction would be that its John Meesen......would be good trade bait for the SUPER DRAFT!!

or

Ryan Willits??.....if its a Port player i'd say it would be him but unlikely.

So more than likely a Crows player, so if not Meesen, then maybe Knights or Douglas, unlikely, but if it was would be a huge loss for the Crows.

Will be interesting to see how it all unfolds....

It may be Meesen - he is a bit unlucky as the rucks are about the only area the crows have not lost a player through injury to this year ( Hudson not counted ). He probably was close to a game early but may just get squeezed out due to being bottom of the pecking order of ruckman @ the crows !!!

Will attract some keen interest in Melbourne !!!

If Sheedy's statement has any truth to it (as per the other thread) this could be an interesting one for the Crows ...

Meeson is a likely candidate. He would now be ranked behind Bigland, Clarke (although set to retire), Hudson & Maric. And with Griffen starting to get league time at Central, Adelaide has an overabundance of big men. Could Adelaide play Maric, Clarke/Hudson in the ruck and use Biglands as a tall forward like the role Lade sometimes plays at Port?

Maybe, still that would mean Meeson is still on the outer.

Often wondered if the Crows decision to select big Johnny ahead of Cameron Wood, would come back to the bite them ... May well be a possibility!

I too believe that it is likely to be Meeson, if so I am not sure what Adelaide would get in return as he is yet to play a league game and is unlikely to do so this year

Meeson came across with big wraps but has failed to produce, maybe he is another Watts and wont be missed too much, especially given the Crows depth in ruckmen, even if Clarke retires.......

If it is Meesen, anything The Crows get for him will be a bonus as he is only about 5th on their ruck depth chart at the moment and even with the imminent retirement of Clarke, you've still got the enormous potential of Griffen to bide his time as the long term understudy.
This isn't to say that Meesen can't play but it won't even be a ripple in the ocean to trade him.

Agree.....'wont be missed too much'.....
The Crows will want to replace him with somebody of equal ablity.
Nobody!

Wonder if Meeson + Another kid (Pfeiffer, Gibson, Griffen, Douglas etc) would get the Crows close to Essendons no. 1 Draft Pick?

NEVER - 2 unproven players for a walk up start for next year in Gibbs?

BTW Douglas will be a star...

I think Gibbs will be a star at some stage, possibly even straight away, but there's no way of knowing that at this stage I would have thought ... Meesen was very highly rated by Vic scouts I believe, so any team short in the ruck department (not aware of much backup for Hille) would surely consider a home grown boy with two years worth of weights and development at a pacesetter such as the Crows?

Sure, any of those two kids would be unproven at AFL level (as would every player in the draft), but I'd suggest they would be more inclined to see regular game time (and hence further development) at the Bomber than the Crows ... Anyway, was just a thoughta-loud as I though it might have been able to serve each's purpose.

Haven't seen Douglas yet but I'm looking forward to it, all wraps on him have been exceptionally encouraging ...

I dont think their is any chance Douglas will be traded even for the #1 pick, the draft is still very much a lottery, with Douglas we know what we have got
