Mickyj , its correct ! I didnt want to name them but , yes , I believe they were told via mail ! Thats very piss weak , so maybe CD could find out both why they were told that way & why they were not given pre season to impress ; they had to be two of our most promising out of a pretty good year for the U 19s .

I find this hard to believe so i'm asking if anyone from Eagleland can confirm this right here & now?
I have heard Pt Districts are interested in them both & may have already touched base with them.

If that is true, then I am very disappointed in my club. Unless there is some extreme mitigating circumstances that called for such action.

How can two of the u/19's better players not be given a shot at pre-season? And to do it via mail is simply staggering in this day is completely unprofessional and not good enough. My club seems to be struggling for supporters and image, and this sort of thing will go deeper than just losing two potential players, ie their mates and families bad-mouthing the club etc.

Unfortunately this is the time of the year that clubs have to get brutal and try and set the club up player wise for the future.
With one less team for the club to spread players around in, the culling process will not be nice. I have watched Shane Harris and Jake Taylor play and IMHO they will never make SANFL league football. They were both given opportunities in the reserves in 2007, but in 2008 couldn't make the reserves. Just because someone wins the U19 medal, does not make him a champion, what it says he most probably played a lot of U19 games and was not good enough to be promoted. The U19 captain does not necessarily have to be the best player, a good leader yes and this was probably the case with Jake Taylor. At times I have been seduced by his ability to get the ball, but other areas of his game let him down. Ron Fuller went and watched the U19 finals and when during the year under age matches didn't clash he was watching them play, he has a very good idea of their abilities. Ron Fuller has always been noted for giving juniors a go, he wouldn't cull these two players without considerable consideration.

The club or any club for that matter always have their reasons to get rid of players.

Harris and Taylor spent a lot of time in rehab and weren't totally committed to a full senior pre season this year. Also Harris didn't even poll in the Top 6 players in the U/19 Best and Fairest. Something in that i guess??

Well Harris did miss the last few H&A games this year which is probably why he didn't get in the top 6 of the 19s B&F. As I always say, the coaches usually see things different to the umpires as the coach usually has a job for players and the umpires look at how often the players get near the ball and things like that.

I think the way it was done is more the problem though.

The lack of up front communication has been a problem all year, for one of the lads inparticular.

I know Harris had some injury issues pre-season, back problems from memory.

Ferret, I think your comments are spot on. Whilst Ron is not the worlds greatest communicator he does have a good eye for junior talent and the harsh reality of being cut is just a part of the process. The changing landscape of the underage competion has increased the pressure on the under 19 kids and if you look at the Eagles this year most of the kids we exposed to league were 16 or 17 so there are a lot of players in front of the cut lads already. These situations can always be handled better and the Eagles are not alone in this department.

The timing was very poor by the Eagles, Shane Harris was forced to sit at a SANFL table rather than the Eagles table on Wed night at an SANFL presentation dinner. Surely they could have waited and cut him yesterday or today even. Would those 2 extra days have really mattered?

Not good enough to treat anyone who puts the effort into the club , to say good bye like that . We often hear these shit little stories from time to time and it all seems to happen on the watch of the same " old " Board ! Do we honestly think by shunning people like that via the mail , they will still follow the club in latter life , along with friends & family . Its not hard to be more professional than that , surely our people skills are better ? CD ?

Agree with Ferret, whilst its disappointing for the two boys there are alot of other players who have probably gone past them this year as was evidenced by their lack of appearances in the reserves (for whatever reasons). As we have seen Ron Fuller is certainaly not afraid to play the young guys he thinks are up to it (much to the disgust of some)
As the Under 19's and 17's technically no longer exist have they been delisted by the club or have they just not been invited to pre season training with the league squad?
Is notification by email the way to go about it? In this era of modern communication maybe it is, it's not alot different to sending a letter via snail mail, but then having said that maybe a phone call would have done the job too.
Mobiles, Email, SMS, Facebook are the way the younger generation (and plenty of the older generation aswell) communicate now though, so maybe the same "old" board are just keeping with the times?
Trust the process.

I did say perhaps a phone call may have been the way to go, but this is the age of electronic communication...like it or not. If its not a phone call there isnt much difference between a letter in an envelope with 55c stamp on it or an email...in the end the result is the same.

In my job it's probably the way i would get the flick...it hasnt happened yet but there is always a chance.
Trust the process.

One things for sure, it would be best if you heard it from the club first, instead of finding it out on here (an official statement) or the clubs website.

How do you think we would go recruiting via the mail , text message , fax or email ! It has to be hard sold in person . Maybe thats how we actually did procure most of our recruits the last two years , come to think of it , that would explain our poor results ? Maybe !
