Jeremy Clayton - How good he really is!

I know Jeremy Clayton is very good, but this article shows just how consistently very good he has been throughout his career. Published in Geoff McClure's "Sporting Life" in today's Age Newspaper.

He'd obviously want a flag but in any case, its a crazy achievement, 8 BnFs on the trot, whilst 4 BnFs in a row is a record for a player representing Port Adelaide.

Jeremy Clayton graduated from the North Ballarat Rebels in the TAC Cup U/18 competition to the North Ballarat Roosters in the VFL in 2000. Cutting his teeth as a senior footballer he played 22 games for the Roosters in a side that eventually lost the Grand Final in the last game ever played at the old VFL Park against Sandringham.
Clayton won the Best First Year Player award for the season to go with his Rebels trophy for the same thing from season 1997. Therefore he has actually won 10 club B&Fs and two Best First Year Player awards in his past 12 seasons of football.

An astonishing achievement, which isn't so amazing when you watch him play ... He's the best player I've seen at this level for quite a while IMHO.

He should have gone to Richmond when he had the opportunity, as I reakon he was good enough at that stage, to make it at AFL level.

Superb footballer, and the first person I think of when I know the Bays are coming up against the Magpies.

Not sure he goes down as one of the all-time greats of the Magpies though, as has been suggested on 5AA and in the Tiser (from memory). He has been a terrific player and has stood out at a club that has not had many highlights or strong performing players in recent times. Had he been a member of the Central Districts side in the past four years, I am not so sure he would have instantly been awarded the B&F. I guess that's where I see him as a player - brilliant individually in a poor team.

Controversial, but that's just my opinion.

Jeremy is certainly one of the best footballers I have seen in the SANFL for the last 10 years or so...

I dont think hes there yet, but comparitively, Williams played 150, Motley 200 and Ebert 390 games. Jezza has played 70 something.

If he decides to play out his career at Port (say, another 4-5 years) and he continues on his current form path, I think its fair to say he should be considered amongst the best Port players.

I personally dont think the achievements of the team make an individuals achievements better or worse. Just as an AFL example, Lockett, Ablett, Skilton, Flower, Harvey, Quinlan never played in a premiership, and in Flowers case only played in one finals series in his career. I dont think it matters.
