DOCKER'S PLAYERS WHO PLAYED BETTER FOOTY AT OTHER CLUBS!!

I've noticed something interesting about Freo players who have also played for other clubs as well......they've all played substantially better footy for the other club(s), than they have with the Dockers.

Examples:

1) Des Headland

2) Peter Bell

3) Adam McPhee

4) Brodie Holland

5) Troy Simmons

6) Josh Carr

I think this is a bit on an indictment on the Fremantle Football Club and the way they develop their players!!

Think that Headland proved in '02 that he's a great player in a great side. Anything less than a great side and the jury is well and truly out which is a disappointment for the No.1 overall draft pick in '98. Ironically, the No.2 pick in that draft was Justin Longmuir and I think he's been a disappointment as well.
They had Peter Bell in the first place, didn't think he was good enough, shipped him off then had to pay megabucks to get him back.
Think they gave up on McPhee and Holland far too early but whether they would have reached the levels they have if they stayed at Fremantle is debatle.

Of course there are others as well including

Winston Abraham
Spider Burton
Leigh Brown
Trent Croad (yes was at Hawthorn first but almost fell off the radar in his two seasons in Perth)

More I think about it, I think the Dockers actually were going alright under Gerard Neesham and given that they were a new side with few concessions under his rein, I think even four years probably wasn't enough.

Fremantle to me is like the St. Kilda of the interstate club. They are just happy to be there. the club has no culture except for a laid back one. The club hasn't even been a success, they haven;t made the eight once to see a final series. I don't see them making the finals until they get a coach who has an idea on how to coach.

Even though he was never a Docker, he should have been.

Supposedly the reason Schofield went there was because Port was only going to give him 1 year which was smart on Port's part.
I have to clean about McLeod, despite praising Neesham up, it was because of him that McLeod didn't end up there. Chris Groom will get to live out the rest of his days as an answer to a trivia question

Yes i forgot about Clement, hes a classic example, went from a fringe defender to one of the best defenders in the league when he went to Collingwood. I think Croad started to go downhill in his last couple of years at the Hawkes, but hes turned into a better player once returning to the Hawkes from Freo though. And yes Spider Burton, i did think of him but neglected to include him in my list, became a cult figure at the Kangaroos.

My opinion Winston Abraham, Spider Burton, Leigh Brown, Scotty Chisom ARE just duds full stop, no matter what club they played for

Heath Black was probably a marginal better player at the Saints while Josh Carr and Scofield were definitely better players at the Power.... and Jess Sinclair has definitely been a better player for the Roos

I also have no doubt that if players like Medhurst and Schammer found their way to new clubs they will be better footballers in a new environment

Bell is only better at the Dockers second time around having spent his years with the Kangaroos. And competing against guys like Carey, Sholl, Stevens etc etc would be a fairly hard exercise to win a BF with the Roos.

Modra not considered as he played in his prime years at the Crows and only towards the end of his career at the Dockers.

As a Port supporter, its great that Schammer is struggling with the Dockers at the moment. He could become trade bait for a possible return to SA. However, in saying that i believe Byron is reluctant to play for Port if he returns to SA, so therefore is more likely that the Dockers would work a trade with the Crows. Schammer for Van Berlo (with draft picks probably involved) seems like a reasonable trade i would have thought.

Yes that is a likely scenario and don't think it's any great secret that if the Dockers bomb this year and (if he stays) next year that Pavlich will be back here as well.

Yes, i agree with you but with Schammer's form this year, the Docker's may have gone off him a bit. If the Crows weren't prepared to let someone like Van Berlo (or maybe Perrie) go, then it could benefit Port who might be prepared to let Cassisi (or White, or both) go in a direct swap.

Of those WA based SA born players you mentioned i'm sure all will feature in trade talks at the end of this season. I think the Crows and Port would both love Waters, although off field/discipline factors may lessen their interest him. I believe Butler has been burning in the WAFL, so he could actually be in high demand as well.

One thing is certain, this season's trade period, with its build up to the "super draft", will be very interesting!!
