ABLETT JNR: ALL ABOUT THE NORM SMITH?

Talk on the national game

I wish people would get over this Brownlow thing. It's just an umpires' award and it's not why players play the game. Who cares if Ablett wins a Brownlow or not, he's still a top player. He won't be any better or worse if he wins 3 Brownlows or none.

History is still regarding Leigh Matthews and Wayne Carey as possibly the best two players of all time, and they never won a Brownlow.

With all that had happened in the previous 2 1/2 hours only Ablett himself knows what created the waterworks. My guess is that it was more to do with HIS TEAM losing the GF.

You can't hang a guy on such circumstantial evidence. As for the Brownlow thing, geez anybody up there at the end would be privately barracking for themself in what is an individual award.

That moment (happened to be coincedental that it was the Norm Smith Medal presentation), it would have just been when it hit Ablett. Anything could do it, so I very much agree with hondo on this one.

Probably because Norm usually goes to a player on the winning team, so hearing a Hawthorn player called out was the final nail in the emotional coffin of someone who has virtually been at the club his whole life.

Exactly. Not because he didn't get it.

Perhaps winning a Norm Smith would've meant more to him considering his father won one? and against Hawthorn!?

Either way agree it's speculative and any courageous team player still appreciates individual recognition.

I cant believe the garbage Im reading.. Gary Ablett to be finished by 28.. What drugs are you on.. What about Brendan Fevola, any word on when his playing days are up and even Daniel Kerr.. These 2 are knobs and off the field yet your getting on GAbletts back.. lol..
A winner never quits and a quitter never wins.. So who came up with the saying quit while your ahead.
Respecting that someone's allowed to have an opinion doesnt at all mean you must respect that opinion.

I can honestly say I see no reason whatsoever to get stuck into Ablett. He's a loyal clubman, fantastic footballer, and as the previous poster said, not a knob like some other so-called superstars.

If Geelong threw Ablett's name on the table on trade week, the other 15 clubs would kill each other in the rush to get him. There's a lot of footy left in G Ablett.
