young guns to watch in 2009

just wandering who are the players to watch out for this year from each club, more looking at the players that havent played league footy or very few games and are looking to stamp there mark.

I'll wait until after the AFL National and Rookie Drafts before I comment on the Bays youngsters coming through that will excite all and sundry in 2009 and beyond.

BigPhil at Life FM - selected for a few games this year and seemed to revel in the opportunity. Will probably be overlooked in the free-to-air and pay-TV broadcaster drafts for season 2009 but has demonstrated an bility to find space on the boundary line or rotate up into the commentary box on occasions. Will develop further with the experience of some finals footy this year and will be looking to get a big pre-season under his belt as a contributor to the 2009 SA Footy Media Guide!

Watched the Gowans today, were in superb form very worried about 2009 if they keep todays performance up

Not likely unfortunatly redandblack, my prediction is that you'll be unlikely too see hartlett, martin or slattery again. Might be lucky to hold on to Stanly with any luck. Having said that, aside from these four you are fortunate enough to have a good crop of youngsters coming through.

Matthew Jaensch will become a League regular in 2009, keep an eye out for Benet Copping, Macca and a few promising players from our elite Under 17's and 19's

Matthew Thompson too.

Craig Fitzgerald is the player I'm most excited about. If he has a big pre-season and improves as much as he did last year, he could be a gun at league level.

I expect Broadbent and Hall to get picked up and Petrenko and Salter to play a fair bit of AFL - those are the real top class young players we have, so looking elsewhere...

Goldsworthy has had a taste and looks a real talent. Could have a good year at SANFL level before getting picked in the draft next year.

Davoren was struck by injury this year, but is a classy player who could impact at league level next year.

Hier I've been waiting to see him step up since his sensational debut in 2006 - showed signs of consistency and leadership in the last part of this season, hopefully a decent pre-season and he can step up another level next year.

All depends on how much the players put in over pre-season and if they can stay injury free.

Although I dont follow the Eagles,a mate at work was singing the praises of Matty Broadbent.
Obviously as an oppositon fan you only get to see other players a couple of times a year,but he was brilliant against us at Woodville,then I havent heard much about him since.
How did he end up coming through and what sort of prospect is he looking to be in the coming seasons.

Fitzgerald has got the talent, but it frustrates me how he plays or is told to play. Tries to play too "big" - flies for far too many marks against bigger opposition and team-mates, tries to lead too much as a focal point, should concentrate more on roving the packs. Westbrook could do these things as he was bigger, and why I'd like to see Herring from Sturt approached if he is not getting a game there.

Hier started to show what he's got after some injury interuptions. Like you, I'm a big wrap for him, and believe he could be the number one full back in the league for the next decade.
