Posted a review of sorts in the main GF thread, but this was a cracker of a match throughout. The AFL scouts would have been watching a few of these kids with great interest, plenty delivering on the big stage when it counted. Glenelg's Jack Redden easily BOG for a wonderful performance throughout. Won plenty of the clearances, and work at stoppages was crucial. Nick Pekin also showed a cool head with the footy on a number of occasions, and Drew Clayfield was clever when the ball was to be won from the packs.
Kieran Flanigan tried hard for Sturt to lift them with a booming second half, and Peter Weir showed poise when it went forward (was a neat touch for movie buffs to have both Weir and Hitchcock on the park at the same time). Paul Cahill could have nearly won it off his own boot, but finishing let him down at the wrong times.
Certainly not a decision to decide a match, and the Snouts weren't sitting that far from this one, but I reckon even Sam Sverdloff would have been a bit surprised to be paid that mark in the goal square in the dying minutes. Didn't exactly hold it an eternity.
Can you guess where I'm calling from, the Las Vegas Hilton...
